Senior Scientist - In Vivo Cardiometabolic DisordersWhat you will do

Lets do this. Lets change the world. The Department of Cardiometabolic Disorders is currently seeking a dedicated in vivo scientist to contribute to our research efforts in developing new treatments for cardiometabolic diseases. This role requires a commitment to developing a deep understanding of the pathogenic mechanisms that underlie obesity. In this vital role, you will be driving discovery efforts to identify how Amgen innovative biological modalities can improve the lives of patients who suffer from obesity and related co-morbidities

Key Responsibilities:
  • Identification of new therapeutic targets and preclinical validation. The candidate is expected to be continuously aware of scientific developments in cardiometabolic disease, with an emphasis on obesity.
  • Work collaboratively with a team of expert cardiometabolic scientists.
  • Present research discoveries to AMGEN colleagues and scientific meetings (oral or poster presentations and publish scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals).
  • Lead ethical, high-quality research experiments in accordance with regulatory agencies and compliance guidelines.
  • Design or assist in the screen and/or mechanism of action efforts using preclinical models to support both small and large molecule drug development programs.
  • Design and implement high quality neuroscience/neurobiology in vivo studies
  • Independently design, perform, and analyze laboratory experiments, including troubleshooting, optimization of assays, data collection, interpretation, biostatistical analysis, and presentation.
  • Participation in cross-functional drug development teams as a key intellectual and technical contributor.
  • Function optimally in a team-based or collaborative environment as part of a highly integrated team, possess excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills, and demonstrate the ability to produce reliable and reproducible results.

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree PhD OR PharmD OR MD and relevant post-doc where applicable

Or

Masters degree and 3 years of relevant experience

Or

Bachelors degree and 5 years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills (ability to build strong productive working relationships with direct colleagues as well as cross functional partners)
  • Strong team player mentality with desire to work in very collaborative, interactive and dynamic group
  • Deep understanding of rodent brain anatomy/physiology
  • Proven track record of scientific and technical innovation with in vivo study design and execution, focusing on neuroscience/neurobiology
  • Demonstrated experience of strong technical and surgical neuroscience skills in rodents (extensive experience with stereotaxic procedures; brain cannulations; direct brain injections; identification/isolation of distinct brain regions)
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully taking research goal from original inception to final comprehensive high-quality data set

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
