Sr. Manager Engineering Projects

What you will do

Lets do this. Lets change the world. In this vital role you will be responsible for managing day to day activities in the global lifecycle asset management portfolio, responsible for a team of internal and external engineering project management, construction, and industry trade partners to deliver a portfolio of small capital projects at the Amgen. Role will be based on the Thousand Oaks Campus, but responsibilities will include remote locations. In this role you will ensure compliant project delivery, review and approve project scope, cost estimates, procurement plans, schedules and cost reporting, facilitate project status reviews to client and leadership stakeholders, develop project funding requests and cost management. The role involves a blend of strategic planning, project management, financial oversight to ensure that projects are delivered on time, within budget and in alignment with organizations goals. May serve as the project manager for business-critical projects. Responsibilities include:

  • Establishing safety culture and demonstrating safety by example
  • Managing integrated project management service provider
  • Determining project objectives, consistent with company priorities and policies
  • Supporting project teams through design, procurement, construction, and Commissioning & Qualification
  • Preparing project funding documents with scope, cash flow, schedule, and deliverables
  • Leading contract partner evaluation and selection process
  • Reviewing and approving cost estimates and establishing check and balance system.
  • Integrating complete team into planning and design reviews for projects
  • Establishes policies for major projects, interprets, executes, and recommends modifications to company-wide policies.

What we expect of you

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Engineering and/or Project Management experience; OR
  • Associates degree and 10 years of Engineering and/or Project Management experience; OR
  • Bachelors degree and 8 years of Engineering and/or Project Management experience; OR
  • Masters degree and 6 years of Engineering and/or Project Management experience; OR
  • Doctorate degree and 2 years of Engineering and/or Project Management experience.

In addition to meeting at least one of the above requirements, you must have a minimum of 2 years experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing the allocation or resources. Your managerial experience may run concurrently with the required technical experience referenced above.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the application of project management skills and concepts with an understanding of related engineering subject areas
  • Leadership experience with a team with varied strengths of technical engineering and facilities management with an organization in the Pharmaceutical / Biotechnology industries
  • Demonstrate practical resourcefulness with the ability to problem solve using practical solutions
  • Possesses interpersonal skills to work with technical scientific and management internal user groups
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and conflicting priorities across a broad range of facilities and engineering subject areas
  • Excellent people skills featuring a demonstrated supervisory style that fits within the Amgen culture and values
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Ability to tactfully negotiate and positively influence peers and executive leadership
  • Effective oral, visual and written communication skills with the ability to listen effectively
  • Resilience and flexibility with the ability to react to changes quickly, and the ability to apply knowledge to new problems and new contexts
  • Occasional travel may be required

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
