Under direction of the Controller / CFO, Accounting Manager performs the essential functions of the position, which may include, but is not limited to, duties as described below:

DUTIES:

Managing and overseeing the daily operations of the accounting department including but not limited to: month and end-year processes, accounts payable/receivable, cash receipts, general ledger, expense accruals, prepaids, fixed asset activity, agent commissions, premium refunds, trust and operating account statement reconciliations, claims check runs, credit card expenses, MGA transfer templates, escheat process, 1099 issuance process.

  • Maintain and oversee all accounting procedures and processes;
  • Prepares and/or reviews appropriate ledger entries and reconciliations;
  • Performs routine treasury functions such as initiating wire transfers, managing positive pay and preparing monthly ACH uploads;
  • Planning and directing the activities of the Accounting team, and ensuring that deadlines are met, and that contingency plans are in place and all tasks covered during absences and vacations;
  • Review and approval of monthly and quarterly Claims Reports and various Reinsurance Bordereaux;
  • Identify errors and discrepancies and take appropriate action including communication to Controller / CFO, and coaching to team members;
  • Hiring, training and supervising accounting staff;
  • Analyzes information and options by developing spreadsheet reports; verifying information;
  • Prepare and post journal entries to financial reporting system (NetSuite);
  • Create additional analyses and reports as requested by management;
  • Assist with regulatory filings;
  • Develops/implements accounting procedures by analyzing current procedures; recommending changes;
  • Answers accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data;
  • Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential;
  • Accomplishes accounting and organization mission by completing related results as needed;
  • Complies with state and federal laws, Department of Insurance criteria, insurance carrier and Company services policies, procedures and work rules.
  • Qualifications:

    SKILL AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, Business with an emphasis in Accounting, or a related field
  • Ten-year minimum Accounting and Financial Reporting experience required;
  • Five-year minimum Accounting Management experience required;
  • Experience with bank reconciliations, general ledger posting, claims reporting, reinsurance, GAAP required;
  • Ability to manage increased levels of responsibility;
  • Proficient in Excel.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office; ability to use the Internet and adapt to new software programs and changes in technology;
  • Ability to set priorities and perform multiple tasks;
  • Ability to solve practical problems; deal with concrete variables in situations; and to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form;
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing with others to explain complex issues;
  • Receive and interpret complex information;
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret industry periodicals, technical procedures and governmental regulations;
  • Ability toconsistently follow company policies and procedures;
  • Ability to adapt to a paperless environment.
  • NetSuite Experience preferred.
