Description

Codexis, a biotechnology company based in Redwood City, CA, is looking to hire a Corporate Counsel.
Codexis is a leading enzyme engineering company leveraging its proprietary CodeEvolver technology platform to discover, develop and enhance novel, high-performance enzymes and other classes of proteins. Codexis enzymes solve for real-world challenges associated with small molecule pharmaceuticals manufacturing and nucleic acid synthesis. The Company is currently developing its proprietary ECO Synthesis platform to enable the scaled manufacture of RNAi therapeutics through an enzymatic route. Codexis enzymes can drive improvements, such as higher yields, reduced energy usage and waste generation, improve efficiency in manufacturing and greater sensitivity in genomic and diagnostic applications.

About the Opportunity: The Corporate Counsel is responsible for negotiating complex agreements. Assist the VP, Corporate Law & Privacy Officer on legal support of the company in other areas such as Corporate Development deals, employment law and environmental/ESG. This role will be based in Redwood City, CA.

• Advanced negotiating skills on complex agreements.
• Collaborate closely with IP Team on licensing deals.
• Flexibility- roll up sleeves, do what is needed on a small team.
• Time management.

In this role you will be responsible for:

• Lead contract negotiator on complex agreements, including deals involving IP licensing.
• Responsible for creating and refining company's approach, from a legal perspective, to partnering with customers and collaborators on our core technology.
• Support the company in other substantive areas of law, including employment, privacy, ESG/environment, and other areas of compliance.

The essential requirements of the job include:

• JD, member of California Bar.
• 5+ years' experience negotiating complex agreements involving IP licensing.
• Direct experience in drug innovator / manufacturing industry.

Additional experience that would be valuable for this role includes:

• Prior in house counsel experience

CODEXIS PAY TRANSPARENCY: The anticipated salary range for candidates who will work in Redwood City is $152,500 to $185,000. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Codexis is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states .
