Codexis, a biotechnology company based in Redwood City, CA, is looking to hire a Scientist I - Analytical Development.Codexis is a leading enzyme engineering company leveraging its proprietary CodeEvolver technology platform to discover, develop and enhance novel, high-performance enzymes and other classes of proteins. Codexis enzymes solve for real-world challenges associated with small molecule pharmaceuticals manufacturing and nucleic acid synthesis. The Company is currently developing its proprietary ECO Synthesis platform to enable the scaled manufacture of RNAi therapeutics through an enzymatic route. Codexis enzymes can drive improvements, such as higher yields, reduced energy usage and waste generation, improve efficiency in manufacturing and greater sensitivity in genomic and diagnostic applications.

About the Opportunity: The Scientist I - Analytical Development will have an opportunity for collaborative interaction with process development and quality control to provide analytical support for our established biocatalyst and emerging RNA therapeutics businesses. This role will be based in Redwood City, CA. If any of the below describes you, we would love to meet you!

In this role you will be responsible for:
- Develop and validate analytical methods for activity, purity, content and other quality attributes of pharma enzymes, life sciences enzymes, oligonucleotides, RNA-based therapeutics and other Codexis products.
- Develop reliable analytical test methods following rigorous scientific methodology and industry standard application of ICH guidelines.
- Design and execute physicochemical characterization, forced degradation and analytical studies on Codexis' products to support process development.
- Perform data processing, evaluation and interpretation of test and experimental data, drawing conclusions based on the results.
- Prepare test methods, protocols, summary reports and technical documentation.
- Oversee method transfer, qualification and validation with Codexis partners in accordance with FDA and ICH guidelines.
- Work with other project team members and communicate results with the team.
- Conduct trouble shooting and lab investigations.
The essential requirements of the job include:
- PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related discipline, OR MS in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related discipline with 3+ years of experience in an cGMP or GLP analytical laboratory environment, OR BS in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related discipline with 5+ years of experience in an cGMP or GLP analytical laboratory environment
- Hands-on experience with analytical techniques and instrumentations and working knowledge of analytical method development and validation, such as enzyme kinetics, UV-Vis, RP-HPLC, IEX-HPLC, SEC, colorimetric and fluorescent plate-based assays, ELISA, qPCR, CE, SDS-PAGE, etc.
- Strong attention to detail and good record documentation skills
- Knowledge of ICH Quality Guidelines related to analytical method development/validation, impurities and stability
Additional experience that would be valuable for this role includes:
- Experience working with enzymes and oligonucleotides/nucleic acids.
- Strong theoretical understanding and hands-on experience with LCMS.
CODEXIS PAY TRANSPARENCY: The anticipated salary range for candidates who will work in Redwood City is $122,500 to $135,000. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Codexis is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states .
