Responsibilities: MV Transportation is seeking an experienced Safety and Training Manager. The Safety and Compliance Manager is responsible for overseeing and implementing comprehensive safety programs and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards. This role will work closely with Operations Managers to foster a strong safety culture and minimize risks within the organization. The Safety and Training Manager will be a hands-on manager helping implement programs and procedures in compliance with State and Federal regulations and corporate and client policies and be accountable for the leadership of OSHA/CDL at the division level.

Job Responsibilities:

Training and Development:

Ensure all operators are up-to-date on company and contract training requirements.

Develop and deliver safety training programs, including classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction.

Maintain accurate records of training completion and certifications.

Regulatory Compliance:

Stay informed of and ensure compliance with EPA, OSHA, CDL regulations, and other applicable standards.

Conduct regular audits and inspections to identify potential compliance issues.

Develop and implement corrective action plans as needed.

Safety Programs and Policies:

Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety programs and policies.

Ensure that safety manuals, programs, and practices are current and effective.

Promote a strong safety culture throughout the division.

Risk Management:

Identify and assess safety risks.

Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies.

Monitor and analyze safety performance data to identify trends and areas for improvement.

Incident Management:

Investigate and document safety incidents.

Conduct root cause analyses to prevent future occurrences.

Work with GM and Operations Manager to implement corrective actions.

Claims Management:

Oversee the handling of liability and workers' compensation claims.

Work with corporate claims staff to minimize financial liability and recover subrogatable claims.

Proactively manage employee injury claims to minimize lost time and light duty claims.

Audit and Compliance:

Lead the division in preparing for and conducting audits by corporate, client, state, and federal regulatory agencies.

Ensure that audit findings are addressed promptly and effectively.

Collaboration with Operations Manager:

Work closely with Operations Manager to integrate safety into daily operations.

Provide guidance and support on safety matters.

Collaborate on the development and implementation of safety initiatives.

Qualifications: Talent Requirements

Transit Safety Experience:

Proven experience in safety management within the transit industry, with a preference for urban public transportation.

Educational Background:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in safety management.

Preferred certifications: CDS (Certified Director of Safety) and/or CSP (Certified Safety Professional), along with any local contract-specific requirements.

Regulatory Knowledge:

In-depth understanding of all applicable safety rules, regulations, and standards, including FTA, FMCSA, and DOT.

Corporate Policies:

Familiarity with corporate safety programs, policies, and procedures.

Communication Skills:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization, including employees, management, and external stakeholders.

Interpersonal Skills:

Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively with Operations Managers and other team members.

Ability to build and maintain positive relationships.

Organizational and Analytical Skills:

Strong organizational and time management skills.

Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and develop effective solutions.

Leadership and Delegation:

Proven ability to lead and motivate teams.

Effective delegation skills and ability to provide appropriate supervision and follow-up.

Technical Proficiency:

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software applications.

Familiarity with Windows-based computer operating systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience in passenger transportation within a similar environment.

Experience working in a unionized environment.

Knowledge of incident investigation and root cause analysis techniques.

Experience with safety performance metrics and reporting.

Key Areas of Collaboration with Operations Managers:

Safety Program Implementation:

Working closely with Operations Managers to develop, implement, and maintain effective safety programs.

Risk Assessment:

Collaborating on the identification and assessment of safety risks within the organization.

Incident Investigation:

Supporting Operations Managers in the investigation and analysis of safety incidents.

Employee Training:

Assisting Operations Managers in ensuring that employees receive adequate safety training.

Performance Monitoring:

Working with Operations Managers to monitor safety performance and identify areas for improvement.

Regulatory Compliance:

Ensuring that Operations Managers are aware of and comply with all relevant safety regulations.

By working closely with Operations Managers, the Safety and Compliance Manager will play a crucial role in promoting a safe and compliant work environment within the transit organization.

Starting salary range: $65,000 - $72,000
