Job Summary:


Responsible for counseling students in all aspects of career transition readiness, job search skills, job, military, educational or other placement, job retention, and Job Corps student exit processes. Responsible for identifying transitioned students who are no longer employed or in school and ensuring a reconnection with another placement, school, or a Remote Career Transition Specialist.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Understands, supports, and practices the Core Values in all aspects of job performance and interactions with staff and students.
  • Supports the Career Development Services System (CDSS) as it relates to individual positions, departments, and overall, Center goals.
  • Conducts interviews with students entering the Career Transition Phase. Provides re-orientation and further focus on job search techniques.
  • Creates and maintains a caseload of active student files, establishes a tickler system for caseload management, and maintains bi-weekly or (at minimum) contact every 30 days through telephone correspondence.
  • Attends meetings that involve Career Transition student/process issues.
  • Visits classrooms and trade shops to familiarize students with Career Transition processes, employability skills, career preparation, job search, job retention, etc. Familiarizes students with advanced training, military, and job offers.
  • Coordinates mock interview sessions. Assists in the coordination of job fairs and career days.
  • Maintains linkages with military services, One Stop, and other external resources, maintains job banks, secures and posts job leads, sets up job interviews, arranges transportation assistance, and other support services. Performs job development by screening leads from newspaper classifieds, telephone, and personal contacts, referrals, Internet, and other youth service organizations.
  • Ensures that all necessary licenses, certificates, transcripts, and any pertinent document that will aid in a job search are completed/obtained preferably before students' exit.
  • Ensures that accurate contact information is obtained from exiting students and continually updates student files with accurate contact information.
  • Identifies support services needed for relocation, and makes referrals to support services agencies. Develops and maintains a resource center for support services.
  • Initiates and maintains contact and cooperation with remote Career Transition Specialists for transition purposes.
  • Serves as chairperson of the student's Career Assessment Panel and submits appropriate reports.
  • As needed, participate in individual or group counseling services in coordination with the Social Development Department and Mental Health Consultant.
  • Assists with UA retrieval, and assists students in the appropriate documentation and approvals for absences from the center.
  • Initiates contact with former enrollee students before they exit the Center, or as soon as possible thereafter.
  • Obtains and enters documentation by PRH requirements to verify separated student placement information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Requirements:

Qualifications:


Minimum: Bachelor's degree in human services, psychology, counseling, education, social science, business, communications, or closely related field; or associate degree in human services, psychology, counseling, education, social science, business, communications, or closely related field and two years related experience.


Preferred: Minimum plus previous Job Corps experience.


Knowledge: Sound knowledge of case management, career counseling, employment counseling and job search, job preparation, and development techniques. Must be able to communicate with culturally disadvantaged and minority youth effectively. Must possess a valid state driver's license. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Must obtain and maintain valid CPR/FA certification. Good organizational skills. Ability to inspire and motivate students.




Compensation details: 21-24 Hourly Wage
