Fuse is looking for a Deputy Director of Engineering to join our energetic and growing team!

The Deputy Director of Engineering is a senior leadership role that supports the Director of Engineering in overseeing strategic direction, operational excellence, and innovation within the engineering department. This position requires close collaboration with C-suite executives and plays a critical role in representing the engineering function at the highest levels of the organization. The Deputy Director will lead large-scale engineering projects, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and ensure the department meets its goals in alignment with the company's overall mission.

What you'll do:

Apply strategic leadership: Work closely with the Director of Engineering to develop and execute the engineering department's strategy, ensuring alignment with the company's vision and objectives

Collaborate with C-Suite: Act as a key representative of the engineering department in executive meetings, providing insights, updates, and strategic recommendations to the C-suite

Drive roadmaps: Work with the Director of Engineering and Technology to mature our product roadmaps in collaboration with our C Suite and Technology Leadership Team.

Lead and develop our team: Lead, mentor, and develop engineering teams, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement. Identify and nurture future leaders within the department

Provide Technical Guidance: Drive innovation within the engineering department by promoting the adoption of cutting-edge technologies and best practices. Provide technical guidance to teams on complex projects and challenges

Oversee project execution: Manage and oversee large-scale engineering projects, ensuring effective resource allocation, risk management, and stakeholder communication. Ensure that project deliverables meet business and technical requirements

Manage budget and resources: Assist the Director of Engineering in managing the department's budget, optimizing resource allocation, and ensuring cost-effective practices

Build partnerships: Engage with internal and external stakeholders to understand needs, gather feedback, and ensure that the engineering department's initiatives align with broader organizational goals

Promote engineering standards: Ensure that all engineering activities comply with relevant regulations, standards, and company policies. Lead initiatives to continuously improve quality and reliability across all engineering outputs

Mentor our team: Develop leaders to ensure the department's long-term leadership continuity

Requirements

We are looking for:

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field; or equivalent experience

Proven experience in a senior engineering leadership role, with a track record of success in driving engineering strategy and execution

Strong understanding of engineering principles, technologies, and best practices, with the ability to provide technical guidance on complex projects

Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, and the ability to effectively collaborate with executives and represent the engineering department at the highest levels

Experience managing large-scale projects, budgets, and resources, with a focus on operational excellence and continuous improvement

Demonstrated ability in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

Understanding of DoD/DoN practices

Experience supporting teams in the engineering development, testing and deployment of complex systems

U.S. citizenship

Current US SECRET Clearance

Nice to have:

Experience in agile, professional SW development environments

Working knowledge and experience with military networking systems

Experience with US Navy Communications networks and C4ISR

Management Degree, MBA, or similar certification (such as PMP)
