Job Description:
L3Harris in San Diego, CA is seeking a versatile RF hardware engineer with experience leading a technical team to support the design and manufacturing of Tracking, Telemetry, and Command products for airborne and space-based applications. As a RF Product Lead, you will lead a team responsible for developing solutions that meet customer needs based on current designs and proposed new development for advanced satellite communication links, digital telemetry, signal processing technology. Additionally, as a hardware engineer you will be directly involved in the design, integration, and test of new assemblies for current and future programs.
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for working with Business Development, Engineering, and Management to develop systems that meet the customer's needs based on legacy systems and new designs
- System/module requirements development
- Responsible for all aspects of RF/microwave product development, including system and module level design and definition, schematic capture, circuit design, derating, and Worst-Case Analysis (WCA)
- Prepare and present engineering design concepts and data results for IDR/PDR/CDR
- Support internal peer reviews, design verification testing of engineering units, and oversight of production
- Responsible for working closely with an Engineering Manager to drive employee engagement and retention, monitor compliance with company policies and regulations, facilitate talent development, set and track goals, conduct employee reviews and feedback sessions, staff projects, and provide reporting on team performance and progress
- Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent required and at least 12 years of industry experience, OR, Graduate degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent with at least 10 years of industry experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 16 years of prior related experience.
- Minimum 7 years of experience supporting production of RF/Microwave hardware
- Minimum 7 years of experience designing RF/Microwave circuits at the circuit card or module level (schematic capture, BOM generation, layout or layout supervision)
- Knowledgeable of RF transceiver architecture tradeoffs
- Experience with RF/microwave engineering principles and hands on experience with RF/microwave and communications test equipment
- Experience working proposal efforts and new product development
- Ability to troubleshoot RF/microwave subassemblies to the component level
- Knowledge of modems and digital modulation techniques to include BPSK, QPSK, and related distortion metrics like EVM
- Experience developing test procedures and conducting design verification testing
- Understanding of digital design fundamentals to include modem architectures, power supplies, interfacing with ADCs, FPGAs, and more
- Working knowledge of digital modulation to include BPSK, QPSK, and related distortion metrics like EVM
- Experience performing RF system analysis using ADS System Vue, AWR VSS, or similar
- Ability to perform linear and non-linear analysis of RF/microwave circuits using Keysight ADS or similar
- Familiarity with transmitter and receiver architecture design
- Transmitter design: gain distribution, linearity, modulation formats synthesizer architecture, and EVM performance
- Receiver front end design: Noise figure, dynamic range, acquisition and tracking threshold, and BER performance
- Experience with performing 3D Electromagnetic analysis using HFSS or similar
- Familiarity with DVB-S2 waveform
- Experience with military or space qualified hardware designs
- Design experience with K band frequencies desired but not required
