Job description
Epsilon Systems Solutions, Inc. is seeking a full time Surface Ship Communications Technician III in San Diego, CA. Summary: Under minimal supervision, the employee provides direct technical support aboard ships of the U.S. Navy on a wide variety of complex shipboard communications systems specifically to assess the material and operating condition of the equipment, diagnose faults, make corrective/repair action recommendations, and accomplish minor field repairs often under time-critical circumstances. Duties and Responsibilities: Briefs ships' crew and managers on the status of assigned tasks and/or repairs Provides On-the-Job Training to ships' crew when assessing equipment/system condition, conducting maintenance and/or making critical repairs. Uses technical knowledge and experience to troubleshoot faults and casualties on a wide variety of communication equipment/systems. Provides assistance in identifying root causes for equipment/system failure to the component level. Works with a wide variety of technical documentation including technical manuals, published procedures, schematic diagrams, ship's and engineering drawings, cable run sheets, fleet and class advisory messages and industry standards to accomplish Fleet Technical Assistance (FTA) and assessment actions aboard ships of the U.S. Navy. Uses available technical documentation to assess the material and operational readiness of shipboard communications equipment/systems. Uses available technical documentation and test equipment to troubleshoot, adjust, align and restore to normal operation, malfunctioning equipment/systems. Conducts complex engineering tests and diagnostics following published procedures. Performs fault isolation on complex equipment and systems. Determines and communicates to leadership methods of repair and/or actions required to remedy malfunctions. Assembles or installs equipment or parts requiring simple wiring, soldering, or connecting. Maintains records of FTA and assessment actions as required in various databases and information systems (IS). Interacts directly with various active duty military, government and other contract personnel as required to accomplish the mission. Interacts with In-Service Engineering Agents (ISEA) and other governmental representatives charged with lifecycle support as needed. Required Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent Prefferred - Associates degree in a technical discipline or equivalent applicable military training Minimum 10 years of work-related experience with U.S. Navy shipboard communications equipment including two or more of the following: SHF and EHF satellite communications (SATCOM) systems (WSC-6, WSC-8, WSC-9, USC-69, USC-38) Navy Multiband Terminal (NMT) USQ-151 Joint Tactical Terminal (JTT) SRC-61 Digital Modular Radio (DMR) Ship-to-aircraft data links (Tactical Common Data Link (T-CDL), Common Data Link System (CDLS) and SRQ-4 Hawk Link) Legacy HF (URT-23, R-2368, URA-38, SRA-56/57/58), UHF Line-of-sight (LOS) and UHF SATCOM including Demand Assigned Multiple Access (DAMA) Baseband/Cryptographic systems (Tactical Variant Switch (TVS) and Tactical Switching System (TSS),KIV-7, KY-58, KWR-46, ANDVT) Fixed communications antenna systems, Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Knowledge of power circuitry Proficient in the use of General Purpose Electronic Test Equipment (GPETE) to include most commonly used analog and digital voltmeters, oscilloscopes, power meters, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, time-domain reflectometers, special diagnostic and test apparatus normally associated with shipboard communications equipment Effective oral and written communication skills Ability to read/interpret schematics, ship's drawings, cable run sheets and other applicable technical documentation Ability to read, interpret, and follow detailed written instructions Sound interpersonal skills and the ability to work individually or as a team member to meet time-critical deadlines Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD SECRET security clearance Ability to make critical decisions in a time-sensitive environment while complying with policies, procedures, sound engineering principles and applicable state and federal laws and regulations Effective problem-solving skills in order to isolate the root cause(s) of malfunctions and determine most effective repair course of action Pay Range: The pay range for this role is $26.07-$47.79 Hourly. This is a reasonable estimate for this role. Individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
