JOB SUMMARY: Do you love working with older adults and serving the community? You might be a match for this position. Under the direction of the Senior Program Supervisor, the Bilingual Volunteer & Social Services Coordinator plays an proactive role with engaging the community to become involved with our food pantries and programs while assisting active and at-risk seniors in accessing and receiving social services. This position serves seniors and adults with disabilities living in the Bernal Heights, Excelsior and Outer Mission by: providing short-term social services within our Active Senior Program and receiving referrals from other BHNC programs and outside agencies. This person assertively outreaches, leads our pantry efforts and connects volunteers to serve our programs. Our ideal candidate is a leader that takes the initiative, communicates well, has great administrative skills and is able to work with a diverse group of staff, community members, and community partners.

We accomplish our mission by developing affordable housing throughout San Francisco; providing linguistically and

culturally responsive services to our communitys most vulnerable adults, seniors, youth, and their families; developing leaders; and organizing and empowering our tenants, clients, members, and allies to advocate for their needs and for the needs of the community.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provides engagement and community outreach/tabling to solicit participants and volunteers for programs, food pantries and community events.

  • Assist in the placement, supervision and scheduling of volunteers (such as the trainings they should attend, materials they should have)

  • Maintains comprehensive records on the selection, training and activities of volunteers

  • Maintain effective communication with volunteers, co-workers and supervisors. Maintain volunteer records including: statistics, volunteer hours, and database

  • Responds to public inquiries to provide information on the volunteer programs

  • Complete intakes and assessments for incoming participants for the Active Senior Program and process electronically using the DAAS GetCare (CMS) system.

  • Provide direct short-term social services such as: completing applications, translations, reviewing correspondence, information and referrals for a variety of services and arranging for care and other services needed for participants who attend the senior center

  • Complete participant charting, monthly reports, and other documentation as required by BHNC and funding sources

  • Evaluate client needs, follow-up and document progress notes to ensure quality and effective service delivery for participants

  • Provide administrative support and assistance during programming for activities, field trips, newsletters, translations, etc.

  • Attend all BHNC meetings, events and activities as requested. Participation in meetings including: monthly Senior Staff, BHNC Staff, and advisory committee meetings and company outreach events throughout the year.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and experience

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Programs required

  • Bilingual Spanish and English required

  • Ability to work a schedule from 9:00am-5:00pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and 10:00am-6:00pm/7:00pm on Wednesdays

  • Ability to provide excellent customer service

  • Ability to perform simple addition and subtraction; copying figures, counting, and recording.

  • Ability to observe and troubleshoot issues and multi-task

  • Able to communicate effectively and respond to emergency and disciplinary situations

  • Excellent demonstration of interpersonal and collaboration skills.

Preferred Requirements

Bilingual - English/Spanish proficiency required for this position.

BA/AA/AS degree plus one year of experience or 2 years of experience providing social services

Prefer at least 2 years experience providing volunteer and/or social services to adults/seniors preferably at a community center or similar setting.

Must have valid Drivers License with three year good driving history

First Aid, CPR, and AED training preferred

Physical Demands

Occasional standing, walking up or down stairs, stoop, kneel, and crouch

Light Work: Exerting up to 50 lbs. of force rarely, exerting 10-20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects

This is a physically active position that involves stamina.

Dirt is common during cleaning part of job tasks continually

Noise while completing checklists/job tasks daily
