Job description

Duties You will perform on-site investigations of industrial and personal injury accidents to ascertain facts, casual relationships, and to determine abatement or corrective actions needed. You will review Safety Management System objectives to identify and correct deficiencies in established programs. You will inspect workplaces, processes, products, or other systems for compliance with established safety and occupational health policies. You will use an approved safety management system for maintaining workload documentation of safety services provided. You will deliver work safety training so proper work procedures and techniques are followed. Requirements Conditions of Employment Must be a US Citizen. Must be determined suitable for federal employment. Must participate in the direct deposit pay program. Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326. Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service. This is a bargaining unit position. You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal. You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases. This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time. You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift. You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license. The incumbent must be able to successfully complete training courses as delineated in OPNAVINST 5100.23 series and the NAVFAC Safety Community Management Plan. Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Formulating, developing and administering a safety and occupational health program; 2) Developing and/or providing input for standard operating procedures and safety analyses; 3) Scheduling and performing inspections to ensure compliance with rules and regulations; 4) Preparing safety instructions and guides for command use; 5) Advising management on changes needed to meet safety and occupational health standards; and 6) Preparing and presenting safety training. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Education Education Individual Occupational Requirement Education Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene). OR Experience Specialized Experience: Experience in or related to safety and occupational health that provided the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: Managing safety and occupational health program elements. Reviewing workplaces, processes, products, or other systems to control or eliminate hazards. Conducting mishap investigations of personal injuries and property damage. Inspecting or surveying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems for compliance with established safety and occupational health policies or standards and to identify potential new hazards. Training of workers, supervisors, managers in safety or occupational health subjects OR Certificates Certification as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar certification that included successful completion of a written examination.
