What You Will Do

Lets do this. Lets change the world. During this program, you will work within the Pharmacokinetics and Drug Metabolism group at Amgen to develop innovative drug discovery techniques to support programs across multiple therapeutic functions within research and development. Your work will inform drug-target engagement, mechanism of action, and aid in the discovery of novel biomarkers to facilitate drug development. The intern will be responsible for performing cell culture and treatment, sample preparation, reagent screening, LC-MS/MS method development and data analysis. Other responsibilities include electronic laboratory notebook keeping and communication of results to project teams.

The department of PKDM within Amgen is dedicated to the discovery and development of novel effective, safe medicines. PKDM works in close partnership with fields such as medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, toxicology, pharmaceutical sciences, clinical pharmacology and regulatory to design promising clinical therapeutic candidates, conduct preclinical development studies, support clinical evaluation and contribute to IND and NDA filings.

We are looking for a graduate student with proteomics background. The intern will be working with the team to develop and optimize an untargeted proteomics workflow to identify unknown protein adducts from small molecule drugs and their metabolites, and a targeted LCMS workflow to validate and quantify the adducts. The developed workflows will be implemented into early drug discovery programs with the aim to provide mechanistic insights to support decision-making. The intern will also need to the following:
