We are seeking a Vice President of Finance who will be responsible for overseeing the financial health of the organization, providing strategic financial leadership, and ensuring robust financial planning, analysis, and reporting. This role will report to the CFO and work closely with the CFO and other senior leaders to drive financial strategy, optimize financial performance, and support the company's growth and sustainability.


Job Summary: The VP of Finance will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the company, driving strategic initiatives, and managing the finance, accounting, and administrative teams. This role will focus on creating and implementing financial policies, managing corporate finances, and supporting the company's growth and expansion efforts, including mergers, acquisitions, and IPO processes.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Operations Management: Supervise day-to-day financial operations including general ledger, payroll, accounts payable, internal controls, and fixed asset management across multiple locations.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Develop and implement company-wide budgeting processes, compile annual budgets, and present financial reports to the CEO, board of directors, and audit committee.
  • SEC Reporting: Lead the preparation and filing of SEC reports including Forms 10-K, 10-Q, and proxy statements.
  • Mergers & Acquisitions: Serve as lead finance team member during mergers, including managing the financial integration of acquired companies and assets.
  • Internal Controls & Compliance: Develop internal controls under the COSO framework, ensuring successful audits with no findings under the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.
  • Payroll & Stock Plans: Lead the implementation of new payroll systems and employee stock purchase plans (ESPP), including stock option management using platforms like Carta.
  • Risk Management: Oversee corporate insurance programs, including directors & officers, general liability, workers' compensation, and clinical trial insurance policies.
  • Collaboration & Revenue Recognition: Apply proper collaboration and revenue recognition accounting under ASC 606, managing significant collaboration agreements.
  • Treasury & Investments: Manage the treasury function, working closely with investment advisors to ensure optimal returns and conduct quarterly reviews.
  • Leadership & Team Development: Establish and grow the finance team, providing leadership in staffing, systems development, and financial reporting. In addition, oversee and provide strategic leadership to additional departments such as Facilities.
  • Corporate Strategy & Negotiations: Play a key role in corporate strategy, including evaluating and selecting corporate offices and negotiating key lease terms.
  • 401(k) Administration: Serve as the plan administrator for the company's 401(k) plan, overseeing fund performance evaluations and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.


The ideal candidate will meet these requirements:

  • Experience in a Finance leadership role with a company nearing commercialization
  • Lead financial oversight and management of strategic partnerships, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and maximizing value creation.
  • Proven experience in senior finance roles, including leadership in budgeting, SEC reporting, and M&A activities.
  • Strong knowledge of internal controls, financial reporting standards, and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.
  • Experience managing corporate insurance, IT functions, and risk management programs.
  • Proven ability to implement financial systems and manage complex stock option plans.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with a track record of presenting financial results to executive teams and boards.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPA preferred.
  • Experience with public company reporting and filings.
  • Familiarity with financial systems like NetSuite, Carta, and E Trade.

This position is located in South San Francisco, CA. At this time we are not considering remote applicants.

The salary range for this position is $ 310,000 USD to $330,000 USD annually. This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on the Company's compensation practices.
