The Lead Editor, is instrumental in shaping the voice and direction of our multi-channel publication, VIA. This high-impact role combines a blend of project management, editorial strategy, content management, and editorial expertise. As the Lead Editor you will help define the tone and style for a leading AAA publication across various platforms, including print, digital, podcast, website, and email.

RESPONSIBILITIES / JOB DUTIES

  • Editorial Leadership
    • Collaborate with Editor-in-Chief, Managing Editor, Digital Editor, and freelance journalists to develop and execute innovative content strategies across all platforms.
    • Provide multi-level editing, from first draft to final, ensuring all channel content meets high standards for quality and engagement.
    • Recruit writers, assign articles, and craft compelling headlines, decks, captions, and other display copy.
    • Interact effectively with designers, photo editors, copy editors, proofreaders, and fact checkers.
    • Review and enhance incoming articles, offering constructive feedback to writers and editors.
  • Content Optimization and Brand Strategy
    • Contribute towards the creation of premium, engaging content that drives Member engagement, retention, and acquisition.
    • Implement data-driven strategies to maximize content ROI and Member engagement.
    • Elevate the AAA brand through storytelling techniques and multimedia integration.
  • Stakeholder Management and Partnerships
    • Foster relationships with AAA lines of business leads, other Clubs high-profile contributors, industry leaders, and strategic partners.
    • Collaborate with editorial, design, sales, and marketing partners to drive channel growth.
    • Review and respond to AAA Members emails.
  • Cross-Platform Content Management
    • Orchestrate seamless content delivery across print and digital magazines, email, website, and podcast.
    • Ensure editorial consistency and quality in tone, style, and accuracy across all platforms.
    • Evaluate new channel formats and distribution methods to stay ahead of industry trends.
  • Editorial Operations and Budget Oversight
    • Streamline editorial workflows and processes to enhance efficiency and output quality.
    • Review magazine and digital final proofs and match-prints.
    • Research editorial topics and generate editorial content concepts.
    • Support channel cost center oversight, including the QA/QC budget as well as processing and managing vendor billing.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Expert in multi-platform content development and magazine publishing
  • Exceptional organization, editing, and writing abilities
  • Strong project management skills with a track record of completing complex projects
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Diplomatic yet direct in providing constructive criticism
  • Deep understanding of effective offline and online content creation, design, and publishing strategies including experience using a Content Management System (CMS)
  • Collaborative spirit and desire to achieve great things as a team
  • Passion for storytelling
  • Proven track record of editorial excellence
  • Proficiency in Adobe InDesign
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, etc.)
  • Familiarity with Google Analytics

EDUCATION, COMPETENCIES, CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES

  • Minimum Requirements:
    • Bachelors degree plus 8 years/or High School diploma plus 12 years of editorial publishing experience and/or marketing communications
    • 5 years in senior editing roles
    • 3 years of hands-on magazine and/or online publishing experience as a senior/managing editor

We target between minimum and midpoint of the range, and all offers are subject to a fair pay analysis - Compensation Range: Min: $124,853.00 - Mid: $156,065.00- Max: $187,279.00
