Small Satellite Missions/Systems Engineer Location: Aurora, CO (relocation assistance is available) Minimum Clearance Required to Apply: Active Top Secret Program Overview: The NASK Small Sat Program includes operations of on-orbit, one-of-a-kind research and development satellites, software engineering support, mission planning, and anomaly resolution. System Engineer Role: As a SmallSat Mission/Systems Engineer, you will provide mission-level systems engineering ("mission engineering") with Design Reference Mission development and analysis and verification and validation activities to ensure successful execution of the mission (space platform). Being comfortable working in a dynamic environment with changing mission needs and priorities that require collaborating across programs and working with customers will add to your success. You will need experience in the practice of mission/system engineering with regard to major space programs (at the prime or sub contract level). Full understanding of space systems, including the space platform (bus, sensors, communications, etc) and the ground segment (mission planning, command/control, data downlinks, data processing, data analysis, data exploitation, and data distribution). You will provide subject matter expertise to ensure a system conforms to system Technical Requirements Document (TRD) and external interface requirements by performing key mission-level trades and analyses. You will participate in major program milestones and design reviews and briefing results of the following: mission analysis, Design Reference Mission (DRM) development, modeling and simulation and key performance evaluations. You will support and lead the following events: major program milestones and design reviews include, but are not limited to, KO (Kick-off Meeting), SRR (System Requirements Review), PDR (Preliminary Design Review), CDR (Critical Design Review), STRR (System Test Readiness Review), and Functional Acceptance Test Readiness Review (FATRR). Collaborate with the program's sponsors to present at and support milestone design reviews (PDR, CDR) to ensure the design and development complies with the overall technical vision of the system. Required Qualifications: 10-15 years of relevant experience B.S. or higher STEM field or related field Demonstrated proficiency in analytical thinking and problem-solving skills and Systems thinking mindset Proven track record of providing professional/excellent customer service and a proven record as a mission-oriented leader Preparing for (building briefings) and supporting key program milestones (SRR, PDR, CDR, PSR, and FATRR), providing regular feedback and updates to ensure the system aligns with performance requirements, and building and presenting technical briefings. Demonstrated history of carrying out mission analyses to evaluate the performance of the system (payload, satellite, constellation, and ground system) and to evaluate and track key mission performance metrics Develop and define system requirements in alignment with mission goals, including detailed specifications of Measures of Effectiveness (MOEs), Measures of Performance (MOPs), Key Performance Parameters (KPPs), and Technical Performance Measures (TPMs). Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to work in an integrated product team environment.
