Department Summary: The N113 Integrated Space C2 department fields capabilities and establishes cross cutting enablers to deliver an integrated resilient Space C2 Enterprise for the Space Warfighter. N113 performs numerous prototyping activities including systems modeling, software architecting and development, and analysis capabilities designed to enable MITRE and sponsor-driven analysis and research in all space mission domains across multiple customers, missions, and technology providers. The research, development, and outcomes of these efforts provide high-quality, comprehensive, quantitative insights for senior government decision makers shaping the future of our nation's Space policy, operations, and systems. The N113 department is a major contributor to the Space Warfighting Division by enabling joint combat power and superiority in all domains in, from, and through space. MITRE's N113 Integrated Space C2 Department is seeking an enthusiastic and talented Group Leader (GL) in Colorado Springs, CO, to lead the Space C2 Modernization Group. While responsible for supervising staff and their development and management, the successful candidate will also work with the Department and Division leadership team to cultivate excellence and facilitate the Air and Space Force Center strategy to enhance diversity and inclusion. The level of effort for these management duties is expected to be approximately 12 percent; therefore, it is expected that the successful candidate will spend the majority of their time on technical contributions to direct or other indirect projects. Roles and Responsibilities: The GL's primary role is to serve as coach and mentor and to help group members grow, learn, and progress in their careers. Responsibilities include providing vision and leadership to department efforts, significant engagement with the MITRE space community and with program sponsors, and personnel responsibilities for group staff such as guiding career development, coordinating tasking needs, and performance assessments. The GL will demonstrate MITRE's cultural attributes by fostering a respectful, inclusive, and collaborative work environment. The successful candidate will partner with Project Leaders and the Department Manager to identify appropriate project opportunities where staff can leverage skills they have and continue to develop new skills. The selected candidate will work to ensure their staff contribute to and are accountable for sponsor outcomes, and maximize employee potential, motivation, and engagement. The candidate will be the first-line supervisor and champion for their staff, creating an environment that inspires excellence and meaningful purpose. Key responsibilities include: Staff Management - Provide leadership and day-to-day management for personnel (6 - 10 individuals with varying experience levels), as well as communicating regularly with group members to ensure well-being, engagement, and promote job satisfaction.
Career Development - Create a positive atmosphere to enable engaging in regular developmental conversations for group members to develop SMART goals that capitalize on their strengths and interests and advocate for staff by identifying opportunities for career experiences and professional developmental.
Cohering the Team - Match projects with staff competencies and identify stretch assignments for staff to develop new skills. Support development of staff transition plans and facilitate staff transitions between projects to meet the needs of projects and group members
Performance Management - Engage in regular discussions with work leaders (e.g., project or task lead) about expectations, performance, and growth opportunities; participate in annual performance management activities. Complete performance management reviews thoroughly, accurately, and on schedule.

Hiring Leadership - Participate in department's staffing activities, including identification, recruitment, development, and retention of the personnel required to realize the department's mission, vision, strategy, goals, and objectives. Basic Qualifications: Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 6 years and a Masters degree; or a PhD with 3 years' experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
Active Secret clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance.
Demonstrated technical depth in the field of systems engineering in one or more of the following: space command and control, architectures, communications/networking, system integration, systems engineering, and software engineering and integration and DoD acquisition programs.
Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with colleagues across diverse departments, divisions, and management levels as appropriate. Includes leveraging relationships and experience to benefit team members and work programs
Strong leadership experience, effective communication skills, collaboration, strategic thinking, and interpersonal skills
This position has an on-site requirement of 5 days a week on-site Preferred Qualifications: M.S. or PhD in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Math, Physics, Aerospace, Software Engineering, Applied Cybersecurity Engineering or a related STEM field, and a minimum of 8 years of related experience or M.S. degree with a minimum of 6 years of experience
Possess an active TS/SCI clearance
Domain experience with Space Battle Management Command, Control and Communications (BMC3) Enterprise
Background in space command and control, space system architectures and integration
Knowledge of other United States Space Force (USSF) mission systems, architectures, and acquisition processes This requisition requires the candidate to have a minimum of the following clearance(s):
