Department Summary: MITRE's Space Domain Awareness (SDA) and Protection Department (N112) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to fill the role of the SDA Outcome Lead. N112 works with its government sponsors across space warfighting, acquisition and other mission partners as they architect system integration efforts to successfully incorporate new technologies and software applications in support of a resilient space enterprise infrastructure, sensing, and an integrated C2 system. This pivotal role involves actively participating in SDA capability development efforts and ensuring further integration with USSF and partner organizations. The candidate will be instrumental is leading efforts to tackle this challenging problem from incorporating new sensing techniques and innovation, integrating rapidly growing commercial technology, and enabling Commanders' decision making through improved command and control (C2). This role requires a deep understanding of the strategic, operational, and tactical levels of warfare, particularly in the application of Space C2. It also requires an in-depth understanding of direct USSF sponsors, related mission partners, and system-of-systems architecture modeling. The Outcome Lead will be responsible for establishing and executing comprehensive studies, developing partner relationships to integrate and further enhance SDA capabilities, and acting as a liaison between project sponsors and all related organizations associated with SDA development and integration. The selected candidate will also develop and maintain relationships with key technical leaders across MITRE program divisions, MITRE Labs, MITRE Platforms, and externally (including other FFRDCs and UARCs) for project collaboration opportunities. Roles & Responsibilities: Assist MITRE and sponsors with comprehensive SDA and Space Warfighting commercial technology assessments and provide recommendations to incorporate relevant capabilities and technology
Work across MITRE and sponsor base to deliver actionable recommendations to improve SDA incorporation and shorten OODA/F2T2EA timelines
Expand international and mission partner engagements to integrate SDA sensors and data
Advise MITRE, sponsor, and partner investments in strategic SDA growth areas
Develop and maintain relationships with key technical leaders across MITRE program divisions, MITRE Labs, MITRE Platforms, and external partners
Provide modeling, simulation, and analysis advisement to steer the organizations towards improved mod/sim tools and operational analysis capabilities
Recommend operational C2 advancements to better incorporate SDA data and capabilities for improved and faster decision making
Expand SDA and Space C2 involvement into joint and mission-focused prototypes, experiments, and exercises
Leverage IR&D investments to develop and refine new SDA approaches and transition advancements to sponsors for weapon system incorporation Basic Qualifications: Typically requires a minimum of 12 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related degree; or 10 years and a Master's degree or a PhD with 7 years' experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
This position will require overnight travel up to 25% of the time as well as some local travel.
Possess an active Top Secret security clearance with ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance.
Ten years of experience with SDA Systems and/or Space Operations
Strong written and verbal communication skills - Able to communicate appropriately to influence and build trusted relationships
Ability to bring academia, industry, and FFRDCs together to foster a diversity of perspective on solving complex challenges
Demonstrated success working collaboratively across diverse sponsors/stakeholders to propose, shape, and lead impactful work
In-depth knowledge of sensing, communications, data integration, and BMC3 being applied to current and future space systems across domains, services, and agencies
Proven experience in providing technical leadership to multi-discipline teams to drive the technical strength of the SDA work program, influencing sponsor and stakeholder thinking as a trusted advisor
Experience mentoring and developing technical staff
This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site Preferred Qualifications: M.S. in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, or Computer Science and 15 years of experience in relevant domain
Deep knowledge and experience with space surveillance sensor systems and mission engineering
Demonstrated knowledge across the air, space, nuclear and cyber domains
Knowledge and experience with Space Battle Management Command, Control and Communications (BMC3) capabilities and tools
Understanding of legacy space sensing capabilities to provide recommendations on new approaches to solving future problems
Demonstrated ability leading, developing, and demonstrating cutting-edge technologies, concepts, and prototypes to wide audiences
Knowledge and awareness of commercial SDA capabilities and conducting assessments and integration
Understanding of Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) tools
Demonstrated ability to work with dynamic teams and lead by example
