Duties A $10,000 Recruitment Incentive may be paid to a selected applicant who is newly appointed to the federal government in this position (or if appointment to this position follows a temporary appointment, or a break in federal service of at least 90 days); acceptance of this incentive confers a two-year service agreement in this position. JOB SUMMARY: The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Fire Chief responsible for the overall management and supervision of the fire protection/crash rescue and fire prevention program for the base. NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Connecticut Air National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the Connecticut Air National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the Connecticut Air National Guard. The major duties include, but are not limited to: Plans, organizes, and oversees the activities of the Fire Protection Flight. Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Represents the Fire Protection Flight with a variety of installation and functional area organizations. Assumes full charge at crashes, fire, or emergency situations, directing activities and personnel, transmitting instructions to Assistant Chiefs on the scene or other personnel as to the procedures to be followed. Determines need, budgets for, and recommends acquisition of additional and/or different fire protection, firefighting, and specialized rescue equipment, contract services, formal training, etc. Requirements Conditions of Employment National Guard Membership is required. Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service. Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation. Must meet Compatible Military Assignment within one year from placement. Wear of the military uniform is mandatory. Direct Deposit is mandatory. Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance. Must possess a valid state drivers license. Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft. Qualifications MANDATORY CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: You MUST possess the following Certifications: Fire Officer IV Fire Instructor II Fire Inspector II Hazardous Materials Incident Commander ICS 300 ICS 400 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Your resume and any other supporting documentation you wish to provide must clearly substantiate you currently possess 36 months of specialized experience in the following: Experience, education, or training in one or more or the following: Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade. Rescue operations. Detection, reduction, or elimination of potential fire hazards. Operation of fire communications equipment. Controlling hazardous materials incidents. Developing, implementing, or providing training in fire protection and prevention Firefighting and fire prevention theory and techniques. Fixed and mobile firefighting equipment operation. Planning, directing, or carrying out fire protection and prevention programs and operations. Performing emergency medical services Experience in managing the function of the work to be performed Experience which includes leading, directing and assigning work of personnel KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks involved. Knowledge of fire fighting theory and techniques. Knowledge of fire/crash rescue operations. Ability to cope with emergency operations. Ability to plan and direct fire protection/prevention programs and operations. Knowledge of fire prevention inspection codes; theory and techniques. COMPATIBLE MILITARY ASSIGNMENT: All applications will be considered regardless of AFSC. Incumbent will be required to be assigned to compatible military position within 1 year of selection. The selected individual may be required to attend formal technician school training. MILITARY GRADE (Prior to Application): Enlisted: E-6 through E-8 UNIT OF ASSIGNMENT: 103d Air Wing or any subordinate unit MANPOWER NUMBER: 1112-104 POSITION SEQUNECE NUMBER: SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires a security clearance (secret) which the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment. Education No substitution of education for specialized experience. Additional information Primary Change of Station (PCS) relocation expenses will NOT be paid. To ensure compliance with an applicable preliminary nationwide injunction, which may be supplemented, modified, or vacated, depending on the course of ongoing litigation, the Federal Government will take no action to implement or enforce the COVID-19 vaccination requirement pursuant to Executive Order 14043 on Requiring Coronavirus Disease 2019 Vaccination for Federal Employees. For M-Day/Traditional personnel who are currently receiving incentives to include Bonuses and the Student Loan Repayment Program, the following termination rule applies: Incentive Termination without Recoupment: If you accept a Military Technician (Mil Tech) Permanent position where membership in the National Guard is a condition of employment, your bonus will be terminated with no recoupment as long as you have served at least 6 months of the bonus contract following receipt of the initial bonus payment.
