JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Occupational Therapist

Classification: Full-time

Department: Therapy

Reports to: Therapy Co-Managers

Job Summary:

Evaluates and treats patients according to appropriate standards, guidelines and physician instructions. Communicates with physicians and medical staff on patient care issues, treatment plans and recommendations. Provides required documentation for third party billing of services provided.

Essential Functions:
Evaluates and treats patients according to program coordinated with medical staff and according to established professional standards, procedures and guidelines and set forth in The Hand Center hand therapy manuals including policies and procedures, protocols by diagnosis and modality and procedure guidelines.
Prepares appropriate documentation of patient care including but not limited to care plans, patient records, charts and discharge summaries.
Reports on patient progress to appropriate parties, including referring physician.
Provides required documentation for billing department to submit charges to third parties for payment for services rendered.
Coordinates care for patient when patient is referred to another therapist for continued therapy.
Recommends changes to treatment plan if required based on patient's condition and response to therapy.
Educates patient and family in proper care and use of various supports and exercise programs.
Maintains therapy unit in a clean and orderly manner. Keeps equipment in good working condition.
Maintains patient confidentiality.
Participates in professional development activities and maintains appropriate professional affiliations.
Attends required department and practice meetings.
Maintains appropriate standards for quality, safety, environmental and infection control.
Maintains all required certifications.
Participate in research activities of practice and/or department.
Travel to satellite locations: Farmington, Hartford, Tolland, Torrington, and Bloomfield required
Other duties as assigned by Physicians or Therapy Co-Managers

Job Qualifications: Knowledge of medical office procedures. Knowledge of spelling, grammar and punctuation for written communications. Skill in operating typical office equipment including telephones, computers and multifunction machines. Ability to maintain pleasant and helpful manner in busy environment with frequent interruptions. Must enjoy working with the public. Must be pleasant and helpful with patients. Able to read and speak English in a clear and concise manner and able to follow oral and written instructions. Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Thorough with attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.

Education: Graduate of an accredited school of occupational or physical therapy.

Experience: Minimum of one year.

Certificate/License:
Current Connecticut licensure.
Current CPR Certification.
CHT preferred

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $34.00 - $40.00 per hour
