Accounting Assistant

Location: Hartford, CT
Compensation: $19/hour - $25/hour

We're partnering with an insurance company in Hartford, looking to hire an Accounting Assistant next quarter. This is an entry level position, reporting to the Director of Finance, offering growth to become a Junior Accountant.

• The Accounting Assistant role is opening due to an upcoming retirement, paired with some restructuring of 2 departments
• The Accounting Assistant will receive training from the current Accounting Assistant for 1-3 weeks
• The department is overall supportive, constrained and available for questions at all times
• Flexible hours between 7-6 PM after training (40 hours per week)
• Easy location in Hartford, on site covered parking

Responsibilities of the Accounting Assistant:

• The Accounting Assistant will be hands on with Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable
• Process a 3-Way match for AP (Invoice, packing slip and receiver)
• Take orders over the phone
• Maintain aging reports and resend statements to vendors as needed to collect payment
• Data Entry/File maintenance
• Create journal entries
• Monitor company expense, ensuring adherence to the budget

Preferred Qualifications of the Accounting Assistant:

• The Accounting Assistant should be able to switch gears quickly and maintain multiple projects at once
• Previous exposure to AP highly desirable
• The Accounting Assistant does not need to have an Accounting degree, but any office or data entry skills will be helpful
