Controller Position at a Growing Wholesaler

Are you an experienced Accounting and Finance professional looking for an exciting new opportunity? Our client, a well-established and rapidly growing wholesaler, is seeking a dynamic Controller to join their team. This role offers a predominantly REMOTE work setup, with occasional travel to the office in Southern Massachusetts, more often during the onboarding period. The ideal candidate will be based in MA, CT, NY, NJ, VT, or NH.

Role Overview: As the Controller, you will oversee the administrative, financial, and risk management operations of the company. Leading a team of five direct reports, you will play a crucial role in shaping the company's financial strategy and metrics, ensuring continuous improvement. This hands-on position requires a proactive, problem-solving leader who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist the CFO in shaping the company's future direction and supporting tactical initiatives.
  • Manage the annual budgeting processes, including monthly updates, variance analysis, and identifying areas of concern or opportunity.
  • Lead cost accounting efforts, including cash flow and orders-to-cash.
  • Manage and contribute to month-end reconciliations.
  • Develop comprehensive pricing and costing analyses to identify key performance indicators (KPIs) and areas for profit enhancement.
  • Report on product costing, overhead allocations, and labor standards.
  • Oversee outsourced functions and vendor relationships.
  • Manage the company's financial and transaction processing systems.
  • Identify opportunities to improve cash flow through inventory management and vendor terms.
  • Implement operational best practices and reliable control systems.
  • Mitigate key elements of the company's risk profile and ensure appropriate insurance coverage.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate record-keeping for auditors and government agencies.
  • Identify and report risk issues to the Senior Management Team.
  • Maintain relationships with external auditors and address their findings and recommendations.
  • Monitor cash balances and cash forecasts.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting (CPA preferred)
  • 3+ years in a Controller position
  • 7+ years of Finance experience in a distribution and/or manufacturing environment
  • Multi-site experience
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel capabilities
  • Hands-on, self-directed, and proactive
  • Experience working with an overseas parent company is preferred
