Job description
Essential Duties 1. Supervises the day-to-day activities of support staff. 2. Assesses and resolves or escalates problems arising within unit. 3. Assists in the development of policies and procedures in support of unit. 4. Assists in long-range planning for work unit needs. 5. Participates in unit budget planning. 6. Evaluates work requests to determine if they are appropriate to the unit or another area. 7. Ensures that work flow is organized and staffed for quality efficient completion. 8. Communicates deadlines and special circumstances to staff. 9. Maintains equipment and supplies for unit. 10. Completes evaluations of direct report employees. 11. Interacts with University personnel to define work assignments and requirements, communicate progress of work, and plan and coordinate projects. 12. Interacts with external sources to coordinate work necessary to fulfill projects, keep abreast of new products and technologies, or arrange for subcontractors. 13. Supervises a staff of exempt and non-exempt employees. 14. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience Minimum requirement of Bachelor's Degree in related field and three years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Position Focus: Under the general direction of the Cytology Manager, manage the evening activities of the Cytology laboratory and supervise staff within the laboratory. Supervise workflow and delegate responsibility for laboratory functions; orient and train staff members. Monitor work progress and evaluate performance. Manage time and attendance records, including scheduling time off. Assist in the corrective action process. Assist with the selection of staff. Direct and supervise the accurate and timely preparation, triage, tracking, and reporting of specimens. Maintain quality of lab work, complying with University, State, and Federal regulatory agency standards. In collaboration with the manager, formulate, establish, and implement quality standards; ensure complying performance. Develop, revise, and implement new preparatory and staining techniques. Ensure compliance with all university and governmental regulations concerning health and safety. Formulate the annual supply and equipment budget and evaluate order and maintain lab equipment and supplies. Assist with the selection and ordering of new equipment; maintain inventory. Arrange and coordinate support services to the Laboratory. Oversee maintenance and repair of laboratory equipment. Perform other duties as directed by the Manager or Directory of Cytopathology to ensure the proper functioning of the lab. The hours of this position are 4p - 12a. Preferred Education, Experience and Skills: Molecular experience preferred. Will be performing molecular testing of determined essential platforms.
