Job description
Duties GS-2210-11: 1. Serves as a technical expert and focal point for the installation and configuration of classified hardware and software on personal computers and associated assigned systems. Develops, modifies, and tests overall classified system backup and recovery strategies for assigned systems. Serves as a systems administrator responsible for planning, coordinating, modifying, implementing, and troubleshooting to meet customer needs. Work pertains to the administration of all classified systems, including a myriad of associated hardware platforms, software applications and numerous interfaces included in the Local Area Network (LAN). 2 Serves as a technical expert on multiple classified operating systems and computer platforms. Determines equipment and communications requirements and interfaces with other systems. Evaluates machine usage and develops plans for the necessary acquisition to support future automation (hardware and software) requirements. Develops guidelines, standard operating procedures (SOPs), bulletins and flyers regarding the operation/use of assigned C4 systems, services, and activities. Analyzes policies, regulations, and system provisions governing standard operating systems. Assists and advises users of policies, regulations, and systems provisions for the standard operating systems. 3 Analyzes, evaluates, and recommends hardware/software changes to various classified computer systems. Considers factors such as compatibility with standard systems, conversion or implementation costs, and impact on existing equipment. Installs, configures, and tests products and equipment being reviewed. 4 Implements systems software changes, operating system releases and maintains the operational status of systems. Coordinates with system developers resolving hardware and/or software malfunctions. Performs security management in accordance with all applicable DoD, DAF, National Guard Bureau (NGB) and Air National Guard (ANG) Information Assurance regulations and policies. Reviews and implements local policies regarding system access, network rights, and physical access to systems and equipment. 5 Implements DAF and ANG policies relating to systems storage requirements. Analyzes system operations to identify inefficiencies and takes action to resolve problems and ensure optimal performance and consistency. 6 Installs and configures classified workstation or network operating systems, and applications software on a wide range of configurable information systems devices. Configures a wide variety of devices requiring diverse interfaces and device drivers in multiple operating system environments on various hardware platforms. Enforces command standards for hardware and software configurations. Configures workstation security parameters. Troubleshoots and corrects software problems to include resolving conflicts between applications, hardware and/or device conflicts, and operating system faults. Detects and removes computer viruses. Restores critical data files. Updates hardware and software architecture databases to reflect installations, turn-ins, and changes in reportable software. Provides input to the ANG Continuity of Operation Plan (COOP) procedures for system disaster recovery. COOP recovery includes reestablishment of systems at multiple sites and locations. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation. May be required to successfully complete a probationary period. Participation in direct deposit is mandatory. The incumbent shall comply with the requirements of the certification program and will be required to obtain and maintain certification. Certification requirements are outlined in DOD Instruction 8570.01-M A security clearance (Top Secret) the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment Irregular and overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies. The employee may be required to travel in military and/or commercial aircraft to perform temporary duty assignments. The incumbent of this position description must have, at a minimum, a completed National Agency Check (NAC) prior to position assignment. Selectee must be able to start their appointment within a reasonable amount of time. Successfully pass a Counter Intelligence Polygraph examination. Qualifications SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-11 - Must and above require one year of specialized experience at the next lower GS-grade (GS-09 or equivalent). Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Such experience is typically gained in the IT field or through the performance of work where the primary concern is IT. The employing agency is responsible for defining the specialized experience based on the requirements of the position being filled. QUALITY OF EXPERIENCE: Length of time is not of itself qualifying. Candidates' experience should be evaluated on the basis of duties performed rather than strictly on the rank of the individual; however, established compatibility criteria/assignments must be followed. The applicant's record of experience, training, and education must show possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to fully perform the duties of the position to be filled. Education Education: All academic degrees and coursework must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions. If you are using Education to qualify for this position, For the GS-5 level, a 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree may be substituted for the experience requirements. At the GS-7 level, one full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement. At the GS-9 level, a masters or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree may be substituted. At the GS-11 level, a Ph.D. or equivalent, or 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. Undergraduate or Graduate Education: Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. You must provide transcripts or other documentation to support your Educational claims. To receive credit for Education, you must provide documentation of proof that you meet the Education requirements for this position.
