Job description

Description:

Delaware Today magazine seeks a dynamic Associate Editor to contribute to its award-winning monthly lifestyle magazine and manage specialty publications throughout the year. If the thought of interviewing interesting people, attending sought-after events, and exploring everything that makes Delaware special excites you, then we'd like to talk.

A division of Today Media, Delaware Today, is fortunate to have a strong and growing readership across the region. We've been the First State's lifestyle authority for more than 60 years, and our mission is to help people get the most out of living in and visiting the area by being the most valued community resource in print, online, and in person. The Associate Editor is a key team member who helps us create and deliver compelling and inspiring content across these platforms.

This hybrid position gives you the flexibility to work out of our brand-new downtown Wilmington offices, from home, and on the road, covering all fun things happening in Delaware. Send your resumé and a cover letter telling us why you're the best candidate for this opportunity!

The skillsets most important to being successful in this role include:

  • Having a deep knowledge of the state of Delaware.
  • Having at least three years of professional, post-graduate experience writing articles, fact-checking, and editing for a magazine or similar publication.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, InCopy, and AP Style.
  • Being able to quickly create clean, tight, engaging, and SEO-centric copy.
  • Having a deep curiosity and staying up to date on current news and trends.
  • Being able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Working well in a team environment and being open to feedback from co-workers.
  • Wanting a job that's so enjoyable, it often doesn't feel like work.

Requirements:

  • Works with the Executive Editor to plan and publish content for print. This includes writing, editing, photography, and layout, so a keen eye for design is a plus.
  • Manages ancillary publications.
  • Keeps abreast of the latest local happenings, trends, buzz-worthy people and events.
  • Contributes exclusive, of-the-moment content for the web, helping to grow our online fan base.
  • Attends and contributes to marketing events.
  • Meets every deadline.
