The OpportunityAs a field-based Senior Medical Science Liaison, you will be a true scientific, medical expert and an extension of Avidity Medical Affairs. This role will serve the West region, covering the following states: WA, OR, ID, NV, and CA. You will build and facilitate strategic peer-to-peer relationships with key Health Care Providers (HCP) in the assigned region. This includes clinical trial sites as well as identified KOLs within the assigned territory. Responsibilities for this role include providing credible and unbiased scientific information, identifying KOLs, executing the strategic Medical Affairs Plan, and supporting home office medical activities. You will also play a key role in communicating disease state awareness materials to identified KOLs and support staff. In addition, the Sr. MSL will bring insights back into the organization and partner closely with internal stakeholders in a matrixed environment.
What You Will Contribute- Build KOL network within assigned region and develop relationships with identified KOLs.
- Identify and conduct outreach to new clinical investigators, site staff and referring physicians; develop relationships and support enrollment initiatives in partnership with appropriate internal stakeholders.
- Engage investigators and appropriate site personnel to understand and report challenges and barriers to study enrollment.
- Support clinical trial initiatives including site identification and feasibility, trial recruitment, and presentation of approved data.
- Build relationships with key stakeholders on the Clinical Research team such as the site's assigned study team members including CRAs.
- Establish Avidity's Medical Affairs presence in the medical community through long-term and valued scientific relationships with thought leaders.
- Provide internal stakeholders with feedback and insights from interactions and discussions with clinical trial sites and other Key KOLs.
- Develop and demonstrate a thorough working knowledge of Avidity, its products, and current medical/scientific research & publications.
- Represent Avidity at scientifically and medically relevant events in the designated geographical area.
- Provide support at professional meetings and congresses including collecting insights and competitive intelligence and developing tools that support medical functions.
- Maintain clinical, scientific, and technical expertise in assigned therapeutic area.
- Share clinical and value-based expertise in the development and management of clinical and scientific communications for customers, including publications, conference data, educational materials, and internal Avidity communications.
- Participate in the planning and execution of advisory board meetings including objectives, content development and delivery of clinical presentations.
- Facilitate and lead the presentation of clinical information for initial/ongoing training of internal colleagues.
- Successfully lead and execute Medical Affairs internal projects related to role.
- Effectively lead medical workstream initiatives in collaboration with internal partners.
- Mentor new MSLs on roles and responsibilities in the field.
- Serve as a leadership point of contact for clinical teams as needed.
- Lead field feedback/input during the development of MSL field training tools and resources.
- Adhere to corporate and healthcare compliance guidance in all activities.
- Ability to flex depending on changing needs of organization.
- Advanced degree (Pharm.D., Ph.D., M.D) preferred.
- 5+ years of related work experience in clinical trial research or industry as an MSL; rare disease experience preferred.
- Proven track record of consistent success as an MSL level or above, including consistent and exemplary demonstration of core competencies and behaviors preferred.
- Demonstrated mastery of core technical and/or clinical competencies and consistent, acknowledged contributions to Avidity's medical/scientific efforts.
- Advanced technical acumen within therapeutic area, recognized via external relationships.
- Proven track record of building and maintaining scientific engagement with influential academic and clinical experts.
- Ability to think strategically; apply knowledge and analytical skills in a highly regulated environment and align medical and cross functional strategies.
- Ability to summarize complex information and present in a clear, concise, and scientifically accurate manner to a range of audiences.
- Outstanding business acumen; knows the industry, Avidity's value proposition, key competitors, and other marketplace factors/dynamics.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills; works well independently while exhibiting professional maturity, confidence, and competence.
- Knowledge of FDA compliance and regulatory guidelines.
- Ability to travel >50% and must possess a valid driver's license; weekend travel may be required.
- The base salary range for this role is $201,600 - $222,800. The final compensation will be commensurate with such factors as relevant experience, skillset, internal equity and market factors.
