Job description

Overview:
The Assistant Track Supervisor is engaged in assisting with the supervision of Maintenance of Way personnel and performing track inspections in an assigned territory with a "Safety First" focus.

Responsibilities:
Perform track inspections.

Assist in creating and implementing strategic work plans.

Assist in managing all track material, PPE, and all other resources required to maintain a safe and efficient operation in assigned territory.

Assist in supervising the activities of MOW personnel and test cars while maintaining compliance with all FEC Safety and Conduct policies and procedures, as well as, FRA guidelines.

Collaborate with Labor Relations regarding collective bargaining agreement interpretations and application of rules and policies while carrying out duties, including managing and coaching employees, conducting investigations, recommending corrective action, and responding to grievances.

Compile, maintain, and disseminate track condition and daily reproduction reports to the senior management team.

Respond to unexpected or emergency situations.

Work collaboratively in cross-departmental groups to assess root cause and future prevention of derailments and disruptions of service.

Other duties or tasks as assigned by manager.

Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Val driver's license.

High School diploma or equivalent.

At least 2 years of responsible supervisory experience in railroad track inspection and maintenance in track Class 4 or higher.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

At least 5 years of responsible supervisory experience in railroad track inspection and maintenance in track Class 4 or higher.

FRA Track Safety Standards Part 213 Subpart A to F and G.

Experience managing budgets.

Experience supervising a unionized workforce.

Training and/or certification in Railroad Operating Practices.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

Adapts rapidly to changing circumstances and manages stressful situations.

Proven leadership skills building a dedicated team in a unionized workforce.

Knowledge of railroad construction materials.

Ability to prioritize multiple projects and maintenance activities simultaneously

Ability to read and interpret engineered drawings and specifications.

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Understand and apply safety standards, policies, and procedures

Knowledge of railroad operations and physical characteristics

Must be able to collaborate with others to accomplish organizational goals, identify and resolve problems.

Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work hours may vary in length and schedule (may include a non-standard workweek)

Combination of office work and working outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions

Lift up to 80lbs

10% travel required
