Job Description HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR Support Department Range Services, Eglin AFB, FL Open Position Request Number R-74-24 CLASSIFICATION : Heavy Equipment Operator; CBA Rate $25.96/HR GRADE: Non-Exempt; Regular Full-time LOCATION: Range Services, Eglin AFB FL- On-site POSTING DATE: Internal Applicants (10/10/2024) / External Applicants (10/16/2024) ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions include the operation of heavy equipment. Must possess the skills and knowledge to set up and operate heavy equipment to accomplish constantly changing work requirements. Must know the principles and techniques of earth leveling, grading, and filling. In addition, must know the strength of ropes, wires, cables, and techniques for lifting and moving heavy objects by machine. Must be able to prepare surfaces by ditching, back sloping, and level blading using a bulldozer. Must be able to change the lifting capacity of the crane caused by variation in the angle of the boom, length of boom, position of frame, and slope of the terrain, and be able to precisely locate heavy targets. Must possess a high degree of dexterity to operate multiple hand and foot controls. GENERAL DUTIES: The Heavy Equipment Operator operates heavy equipment such as cranes, clamshells, power shovels, motor graders, heavy loaders, carryalls, bulldozers, rollers, scrapers, and large industrial tractors with pan or scrapper attachments at various locations. Works under general supervision receiving oral or written instructions. Equipment is used to excavate, load, or move dirt, gravel, or other materials. Operator may read and interpret grade and slope stakes and simple plans, and may grease, adjust and make emergency repairs to equipment. Job Requirements OTHER DUTIES: Other functions include assisting in the orientation and training of other technicians at this level when directed by the supervisor. May be assigned additional responsibilities as a lead technician. Will perform general housekeeping and other job-related tasks. May be required to handle hazardous material/hazardous waste. May be required to support contract/mission support requirements in non-job-related areas such as road guard, escort, administrative, or other tasks. Will be required to work overtime, shiftwork as required to support missions. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Applicant must be a high school graduate that is able to read, write, and communicate clearly. Will be required to hold and maintain a valid class "A" CDL. Must have five years of applicable heavy equipment operation experience. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: This position requires a Secret security clearance. Candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. May be required to work overtime, shiftwork, weekends, and/or holidays. May be required to handle hazardous material/hazardous waste. All selected candidates must undergo and successfully pass a background investigation and drug test as a condition of placement into this position. Supports E-OMS operational objectives. Observes company Quality, Safety, Environmental, Security and Administrative policies; supports Process Improvement. Will be required to obtain and maintain a forklift license. Working knowledge of TS C-74 target set-up and operations is "HIGHLY DESIREABLE". WORK ENVIRONMENT: Will be required to work outside most of the time and may be subjected to extreme environmental conditions including noise, fumes, dust, vibrations, and temperatures. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Physical effort required consists of crawling, bending, stooping, standing, and working in various strained positions for a considerable period. Close hand and eye coordination is required in performing many varied tasks. The ability to work at heights may be required.
