Job Description

Our Jacksonville office is looking for a talented addition to our environmental department! As one of the largest and most established environmental consulting firms in Florida, We gave an incredible team of environmental professionals and amazing clients. We are looking for an environmental technician to perform asbestos and industrial hygiene surveys in our Jacksonville office. The selected candidate will conduct initial building inspections, asbestos and lead abatement oversight and assist project managers with industrial hygiene inspections. Candidate may further support phase I environmental site assessments or other environmental projects as needed.

Building inspection job duties include collection of field documentation, collection of bulk samples, review of laboratory documents, and data reporting as well as testing of surface coatings for lead paint in commercial and industrial settings and performing mold inspections and sampling for suspect microbial growth. For air monitoring activities, the candidate will be responsible for abatement oversight including contractor interaction, operation of field air monitoring equipment, collection of field documentation and on-site analysis of air samples by Phase Contrast Microscopy (PCM). Job duties with industrial hygiene inspections include performance of noise surveys, radon surveys, microbial and indoor air quality investigations with sampling, other personal sample collection such as silica and lead exposure monitoring, and data reporting.

Although the primary focus of this position will be industrial hygiene and asbestos work, the performance of standard environmental work may include: Phase 1 ESAs including site visits and data review, testing and sampling of environmental media to include in air, groundwater, sediment, and soils.

The candidate will be responsible for cleaning and maintaining field monitoring equipment. Candidate will be required to adhere to strict company health and safety standards.

Essential Role and Responsibilities

Performs standardized and sometimes complex field tests as directed and/or special inspections as required.

Performance of building inspections for asbestos-containing building materials in accordance with AHERA guidelines and state regulations.

Perform air monitoring and visual inspections during asbestos abatement projects.

Sampling of painted coatings (via paint chip or XRF) in residential, commercial and industrial settings in accordance with state and federal regulations.

Calibrate field monitoring equipment such as PID, combustible gas indicator, indoor air quality meters and air sampling pumps.

Sampling for noise levels within industrial settings.

Sampling suspect microbial growth.

Performing indoor air quality assessments.

Follow safety rules, guidelines, and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.

Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.

Minimum 1-3 years of relevant experience or the equivalent in training and related experience.

Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history.

Preferred

Certification(s) in field of expertise. Examples include:

AHERA-Certified Asbestos Building Inspector

NIOSH 582 Trained Asbestos Air Monitor / Project Monitor

EPA Certified Lead-Based Paint Inspector and Risk Assessor

Florida Licensed Mold Assessor

Florida Certified Radon Measurement Technician or Specialist.

Associates or bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science or related scientific field

Other national, regional, state, and local environmental related certifications requiring experience and written examination will also be considered if deemed appropriate by the Department Manager.
