Summary You will serve as a Supervisory Firefighter as the Deputy Fire Chief in the Navy Fire & Emergency Services of NAS JAX. Duties You will serve as a senior authority and advisor for fire protection for the installation. You will assess and formulate operating expenditures including staffing requirements. You will Interpret new fire protection requirements and recommend the adoption or implementation of applicable policies and procedures. You will prepare fire protection policies for the installation and promulgate directives governing fire protection matters. Requirements Conditions of Employment Must be a US Citizen. Must be determined suitable for federal employment. Must participate in the direct deposit pay program. Applicants must meet the Department of Defense (DoD) certification requirements: You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination. Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326. Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service. You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license. You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination. You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal. Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing. This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision. Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101. Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the following duties: 1) Managing and directing fire department operations involving structural, shipboard, crash/rescue, wildland, as well as operations involving toxic materials, Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD), nuclear, and conventional ordnance; 2) Utilizing the latest technical developments in fire prevention and protection to achieve and maintain operational readiness with minimal manpower to accomplish the overall fire protection mission; 3) Evaluating the technical adequacy of all fire protection and life safety features; and 4) Conducting investigations of fires to determine cause. NOTE: This experience must be supported by your resume. This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: Firefighter I and II, Airport, HAZMAT Technician, HAZMAT Incident Commander, Fire Officer IV, Fire Inspector II, and Fire Instructor II. These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement. Secondary positions are supervisory or administrative firefighter positions. Administrative positions whose duties are of an administrative nature (i.e. executive, managerial, technical, semi-professional, or professional) for which the experience in a primary firefighter position is a prerequisite. Firefighters must be physically fit at all times in order to perform the duties of their position to the best of their abilities. As such, all operationally based 0081 series employees shall participate in a Wellness and Fitness Program established by their Fire Department, in order to maintain a level of health and fitness necessary for performing their job functions.
