Job description
Payload Mechanical Engineer Kennedy Space Center - Merritt Island, FL Aegis Aerospace has been selected by NASA to provide insight, surveillance, systems engineering, analysis, and mission operations support services to the Deep Space Logistics (DSL) Project at the agency's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Under the Deep Space Logistics Engineering Support (LENS) contract, our employees will provide engineering support to NASA to review and assess activities of the Gateway Logistics Services (GLS) IDIQ Contract Commercial Service Provider. This effort may include the review and assessment of the requirements, design, analysis, testing, manufacturing, verification, validation, assembly, integration, checkout, mission preparations and operations required to deliver cargo and payloads to the lunar Gateway, or for other DSL mission projects and interests. Responsibilities: Conduct independent analyses or evaluate designs from providers to facilitate swift design refinements and provide insights for integration performance evaluations for NASA customer Conceptualize, design, and analyze payloads for deep space missions, ensuring compliance with program requirements, technical standards, and mission objectives. Provide insight and oversight of the design, analysis, test, manufacturing, and operation of mechanical cargo systems supporting Logistics Modules for Gateway. Work alongside members of the integrated performance team, such as thermal, electrical, mission design, and space environments experts, to aid spacecraft providers in assessing their overall design and capability to fulfill mission requirements. Observe and provide detailed reports on mechanical system testing conducted by the provider; offer analysis of provider test plans and anticipated results. Offer expertise throughout the phases of design, analysis, testing, manufacturing, and operation of mechanical cargo systems that support Logistics Modules for the Gateway. Travel as needed to other NASA centers and commercial partner facilities. Required Experience: BS Degree in Engineering from accredited university and 8-10 years of experience. Masters Degree and 8 years of experience with Space Propulsion systems. Experience with using CAD tools to open and manipulate CAD models or STP files in Creo, NX, or AutoCAD. Experience with stress analysis methods and tools such as FEA software packages. Strong verbal and written communication skills, be able to work in a team, and develop cooperative relationships with NASA, international, and commercial partners. Structural or mechanical system design experience including familiarity with design and analysis tools and testing methods. Ability to track multiple tasks and prioritize work independently. Preferred Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience with hardware and/or operations in direct engineering experience on space vehicles. Proficient/expert in CAD and FEA analysis. Proficiency in one or more programming languages. Direct experience with, or exposure to, spacecraft cargo systems and other spacecraft discipline experts. A working knowledge and experience with ISS, Gateway and/or Commercial Crew design and verification documentation and requirements. Experience working in and insight and surveillance role. Working knowledge of NASA standards, practices and requirements including safety, fault tolerance, FMEAs and unique disciplines (i.e. Cargo, Structures, Materials, etc.) Systems Engineering experience/background or a desire to learn systems engineering.
