JOB SUMMARY
In collaboration with clinical and administrative leadership, the Pathway to Excellence & Magnet Program Director assumes system-wide responsibility for coordinating all aspects of the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) designation Programs including the application, designation, and re-designation process. Serves as the ANCC Program resource to the nursing leadership team, and functions as a liaison to hospital departments and consultative resource for administration, nursing, non-nursing employees, physicians, and community. Promotes nursing excellence, recognition, empowerment through Shared Decision Making and professional development of nurses.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Communication: Embraces a multi-disciplinary collaborative approach throughout the ANCC accreditation process. Serves as liaison between NCH leadership and Pathway to Excellence/Magnet stakeholders including nursing and hospital staff, physicians, and the community to ensure partnership in the designation/re-designation process. Works collegially and openly with all stakeholders to communicate the vision, report the progress, create solutions, and motivate and engage employees in demonstrating a Magnet environment.
Embodies the vision of Magnet through written works, public speaking, professional leadership, and research. In collaboration with the CNE, CNO and ADs, designs and implements marketing initiatives including assisting in the dissemination of information to all stakeholders. Oversees requests for organizations requesting Magnet networking.
Planning: In collaboration with the CNE, CNO and AD, provides leadership, oversight, coordination, and facilitation for an action plan, project schedules, and Magnet budget to the organization's pursuit of Magnet designation. Establishes a timeline and milestones in order to maintain Magnet focus across the organization.
Organizing: Facilitates the Nursing Excellence Steering Committee coordinating meetings and activities. Acts as a resource for the Nursing Excellence Steering Committee regarding the Magnet components and necessary Sources of Evidence. Assists in the development and maintenance of a core group of Magnet Nurse Champions. Leads informational sessions. Maintains current knowledge of the Magnet designation requirements and process, assisting with incorporating updated standards and practice into department operations in collaboration with CNE, CNO, ADs, Directors and Council membership.
Data Collection: Oversees and maintains all relevant files of evidence required for the narratives. Collects and composes narrative descriptions that reflect nursing excellence according to ANCC standards. Coordinates demographic data requirements required for reporting of all nursing staff credentials, education, unit demographics, and organizational overview.
Initiating: Coordinates the fulfillment of responsibilities as designated by the Pathway to Excellence/ Magnet Recognition Program, including the collection, organization, and preparation of evidence. Ensures all eligibility requirements and standards have been met and that the organization reflects the internalization of the Standard specific Components. In collaboration with nursing colleagues and staff councils, develops department policies and procedures to assure that nursing care reflects current Components of Pathway to Excellence/ Magnet and Sources of Evidence, and ANA standards of practice.
Designation/Re-designation: Coordinates and conducts all aspects of the ANCC program specific document initial and renewal submission process. Submits application and supporting documentation in fulfillment of ANCC program requirements in a timely manner. Provides an environment of motivation and commitment through celebration, communication, and education. Coordinates the Magnet site visit.
Leadership: Serves as a resource providing consultative support to nursing leadership, nursing staff, and all members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team concerning the Magnet journey and Pathway to Excellence program. Provides input for strategic planning to assure alignment with Magnet Components. Provides leadership in critical thinking, conflict management and problem solving. Attends and actively participates in department and hospital-wide councils and/or committee meetings and activities, providing direction and leadership as needed. Supports the development of, and mentors others in the continued development of the shared decision-making process and professional nursing practice model. Directs and/or supports efforts to ensure the ANCC standards/ EOPs are enculturated into all aspects of the nursing division. Maintains and expands personal clinical expertise and knowledge by reading, attending relevant educational offerings, public speaking, participating in professional organizations and publication submissions.
Quality: Oversees the clinical practice coordinator and Maintains data integrity and ensures quality data sources are consistent in collaboration with the ADs. Promotes quality in a setting that supports professional nursing practice and collects examples of excellence in the delivery of nursing services. Responsible for monitoring nurse sensitive indicators and data submission and reporting of indicators in collaboration with ADs. Demonstrates competency and supports the organization's compliance efforts regarding all pertinent regulation, licensing, and accrediting agencies.
Research: Collaborates with the Coordinator of Research and EBP to support the coordination of a formal nursing research program prioritized towards the nursing strategic plan and Magnet requirements.
Staff Education/Development: Plans programs and in-services to continually educate all employees along the ANCC Pathway to Excellence & Magnet Journey. Assists in the development and delivery of ANCC program-related education. Mentors staff nurses to support their role as educators about the Magnet process and serves as an educational resource to the nursing community. Participates in projects that enhance nursing excellence and professional development.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of BSN required. Masters in Nursing or related field preferred.
A minimum of 5 years nursing experience required in team facilitation, conducting education programs, project management, planning and managing complex function and processes, data analysis and/or program administration; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum of 1 year of leadership experience at a manager/director level or related education in lieu of experience.
Current RN licensure in the state of Florida. Professional certification in a specialty area preferred.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
Prefer experience as a member of team that has achieved or pursuing Magnet designation with knowledge of or participation in Shared Decision Making, understanding of Magnet concepts highly preferred.
Strong writing, editing and presentation skills.
Intermediate computer knowledge: Uses Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows.
