Summary You will serve as a Mail Clerk in the Mail Facility of NAVSUP FLC SIG GF. Duties You will perform various duties involving the control, processing, and delivery of incoming and outgoing mail. You will separate mail for internal or external distribution and by class of mail. You will screen outgoing mail for proper addressing and ensure compliance with procedural requirements and postal regulations. You will deliver and pick up mail and parcels at the field offices and hold "mail calls" at these sites to allow customers to deliver and pick up their mail. You will process and consolidate mail to ensure it is transported at the lowest cost possible while at the same time meeting delivery and handling standards. Requirements Conditions of Employment Must be a US Citizen. Must be determined suitable for federal employment. Must participate in the direct deposit pay program. You will be subject to and must be able to satisfy the overseas requirements of the 26Jul12 DODI 1400.25 V1230: This position may require travel to places within and outside the contiguous United States which could include remote or isolated sites. You may be required to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time. If eligible for permanent change of station, the appointee will be required to sign a transportation agreement to establish a Government time in service requirement of 12 months. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport. Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326. You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination. You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases. This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision. Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS- 04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing mail clerk duties.
Examples of specialized experience include:
1) Performing a variety of mail handling services;
2) Performing clerical duties such as maintaining administrative records, required forms and adequate miscellaneous office supplies. Education In lieu of general/specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience: 4 years above high school or a combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. Work Environment: The employee works in areas involving moderate risks and discomfort such as high noise levels, paper dust, ink, solvents, and lubricants. The employee works around operating equipment and must follow established safety procedures. The employee works around heavy boxes, hand trucks, carts, taping/wrapping material, and portable postal conveyances used in the proper handling/movement of official mail. The majority of work is performed in a controlled environment. Some work is performed in a mobile setting where driving a mail truck or van to outlying mail facilities is required. Occasionally, the ambient air temperature may be in excess of or fall well below the employee's level of comfort. Physical Demands: The employee performs moderately strenuous work involving some physical exertion such as standing, walking, stooping, stretching, or bending for long periods, or frequent lifting and carrying of packages, pouches, or bags weighing 70 lbs. Incumbent may be subject to occasional travel of up to 25%. This may require walking, bending and climbing during visits to various Navy and commercial installations.
