Instrumentation Engineer Scientist and Engineer III Eglin AFB, Florida Niceville, Florida HX5 is an award-winning provider of engineering, research and development, and technical services to clients such as NASA and the Department of Defense. HX5 is currently seeking a Instrumentation Engineer to join the TMAS team at Eglin AFB for the 96 TW (Test Wing). The 96TW is the T&E center for Air Force air-delivered weapons, navigation and guidance systems, Command and Control systems, and Air Force Special Operations Command systems. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Works as a member of an integrated product team to develop and test new capabilities for the United States Air Force. Supports the full-spectrum developmental test and evaluation (DT&E) of US Air Force Special Operations, Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR), Tactical Mobility, and Close Air Support (CAS) C-130, B-52, and other fixed-wing aircraft. Works within the guidelines established in Government approved test procedures, method of test (MOT), and go or no-go criteria. Designs new aircraft and ground station instrumentation systems or modifications to existing equipment. Develops instrumentation packages to collect test data from aircraft data busses, video/audio systems, weapon systems, and other sources to support test objectives. Coordinates with integrated test team personnel to thoroughly define data collection requirements to obtain a valid assessment of test item performance. Reviews technical specifications and system design documents. Attends test planning meetings, technical interchange meetings, and system design reviews. Develops instrumentation plans and detailed modification packages to support airworthiness certifications. Works with technicians to install instrumentation equipment to include data recorders, data busses, camera systems, audio recording, and discrete sensors on test aircraft. Performs duties onboard test aircraft during ground operations. This includes pre-flight and pre-ground event instrumentation setup; interfacing with aircrew, test engineers, and other personnel during aircraft ground tests and operations; and post-event instrumentation shutdown and media transportation. Troubleshoots, isolates, and repairs instrumentation systems as required to ensure mission readiness. Travels to offsite locations and transports equipment as required; performs other duties as assigned. Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's or Master's degree in an applicable discipline and three (3) to ten (10) years of experience Six (6) years of relevant technical experience may be substituted for a BS degree (total 9 years) or four years' relevant experience with an Associate's Degree (total 7 years). Must have experience interpreting and producing technical drawings and schematics. Must have experience instrumenting digital data busses, video, avionics, and communications systems. Must have experience with instrumenting and recording digital and analog sensors, including accelerometers, thermocouples and strain gauges. Must be able to physically work on or near aircraft in various locations and conditions, including during ground aircraft operations. Must have a demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of an integrated test team. Must be able to effectively communicate orally and possess technical writing skills. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications is required. Desired: Experience instrumenting and testing military aircraft/system is highly desired. Design experience using SolidWorks/Electrical CAD software is highly desired Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This full-time position requires 40 hours per week and offers a flexible work schedule Monday through Friday during core business hours. Other Position Requirements: Proof of U.S. Citizenship is a requirement for this position. Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance by date of hire. Must be able to travel, including air travel up to 25% .
