Job description

_ Ocala Equine Hospital, PA _ is an extremely fast-paced and busy practice. The practice consists of an ambulatory division, surgery division, and in-house laboratory. The facility includes 3 barns, a pool recovery system, MRI, CT advanced imaging, Nuclear Scintigraphy, Pet Scan and state-of-the art equipment in all areas. The surgical caseload consists of elective / emergency orthopedic and upper airway cases.

Salary range based on experience.

Anesthesia Veterinarian Technician Responsibilities :

_The primary role and duties include, but are not limited to, the following:_

Coordinate and complete the following tasks timely, efficiently, and accurately adhering to local policies and procedures:

Work in a team environment in preparation of surgical procedures

Calculate and administer sedation

Place IV catheters

Assist with set up and position of patient

All aspects of anesthetic care; induction, intubation, recovery

Monitor patient levels and control of anesthesia machine

_ With training, the ability to independently manage anesthesia cases. _

_ General Duties _

Assist with sterilization of instruments and equipment

Care for all anesthesia equipment

Keep meticulous notes in horses' chart

Physical assessment of patient

Communicate effectively with surgeons when necessary

Administer medication as needed

Patient Contact: move patients from stalls to hospital and return to stall

_ Technical Skills _:

Ability to follow drug protocols for induction, maintenance, and TIVA

Phlebotomy

All routes of medication administration

Fluid therapy

Hours are Monday - Friday 7:30am until daily surgery are completed and rotating on-call schedule for nights and weekends. We are not a 24-hour facility.

Qualifications

US work authorization (Required)

Veterinary technician experience preferred

Scrub / Surgery technician experience, 3 years preferred

Familiarity of surgical instruments

Patient Charting

Understanding of sterilization technique

Understanding of drugs/medications

Ability to keep detailed logs of all controlled substances

Exceptional horse handling skills required, including handling of fractious or sedated horses, mares and foals

Veterinary medicine experience (TPR, IM/IV, retraining techniques, oral medications, placing catheters, bandage wraps, isolation protocols, sterile technique)

Full understanding of horse anatomy

Capable of recognizing patient emergency situations

Critical thinking

Effective communicator

Detail oriented

Ability to handle high pressure situations

Ability to learn and adapt as needed
