Job Details Job Location: Academy North - Pompano Beach, FL Salary Range: Undisclosed School Nurse or LPN SUMMARY Responsible for the medical and physical care of the assigned residents and to assure that the most appropriate care is provided. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE One-year certificate from college or technical school; and three to six months related experience and/or training. Pediatric or ventilator experience preferred. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Valid Florida Driver's License, Florida LPN License, HIV and HIPAA Certificates, CPR LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Qualifications ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Administer medications/treatments to residents. 2. Perform tracheostomy (trach) care including changing, cleaning and emergency care astrained by Respiratory Director. 3. Perform tracheostomy, nasopharyngeal, and oral suctioning. 4. Perform and be familiar with sterile procedures. 5. Perform oxygen therapy, including the use of the oxygen tank and apparatus, adjusting to the purpose of seizure management. 6. Perform respiratory therapy for trach and vent residents. 7. Perform first aid measures for the purpose of seizure management. 8. Be familiar with the care and management of ventricular shunts. 9. Perform postural drainage and percussioning on patients who require this. 10. Repositions residents throughout shift with frequent rounds at least every 2 hours. 11. Perform oral and gastrostomy tube feedings. 12. Perform gastrostomy tube care. 13. Report signs of dehydration and fecal impactions. Properly document findings. 14. Takes temperatures and vital signs. Properly documents findings. 15. Deal with emergency situations: a. Aspiration b. foreign body ingestion c. toxic substance ingestion d. congestion e. seizures (including status epilepticus) f. cardiopulmonary arrest 16. See that the children are clean at all times, bath & hair grooming. 17. Demonstrates compliance with Physical management Plan of all Residents. a. Positioning Program - positions residents properly in wheelchair and in bed. b. Splinting program c. Sensory Program d. Feedingprogram 18. Completes necessary charting of residents in a timely fashion 19. Maintain a neat, clean, and organized work area with clean/sterile equipment. 20. Report problems to the physician and/or DON when necessary 21. Accompany child to appointments and other types of transfers out of the facility when necessary. 22. Report emergencies to Supervisor on shift and complete necessary documentation (charting, grievances, incident reports, etc.). 23. Report staffing shortages to Supervisor when you take the call. 24. Follows infection control policies & procedures. 25. Accountable for maintaining residents daily schedule (sleep, school, etc.) 26. Participates in discharge planning; including family education. 27. communicates received information from physicians, family, doctor appointments, hospitals, etc. to necessary disciplines and/or care staff. 28. Attend ongoing in-services, training, and in house educational programs. a. Utilize learned knowledge towards resident care and leisure 29. Utilize and promote utilization of physical management plan by all care staff. 30. Maintains within compliance of an interdisciplinary model, in which there exists ongoing collaboration to achieve comprehensive management of physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs of the residents.
