Chief Underwriting Officer - Property Division Leading Specialty Insurance Company


A leading, publicly traded specialty insurance company, recognized for consistent profitability and an A-rating, seeks a seasoned Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO) to launch and lead a new property division. With nearly 20 years of success, this firm is expanding its product offerings and targeting growth in commercial residential coverage within Florida.


Office is located around the Tampa area and a hybrid work situation may be a possibility for the more experienced executive.


Position Overview


As CUO, you will be instrumental in developing, managing, and growing this division, focusing on commercial residential apartments in Florida. Coverage will primarily be property insurance with limited general liability (GL), with an emphasis on garden-style and mid-rise apartment complexes (up to 7 stories). This Admitted business line will serve properties with a Total Insured Value (TIV) between $5 million and $55 million, beginning with TIVs of $5 million to $10 million in the first year.


The geographic focus covers the entire state, including properties within a quarter mile of coastal areas. This role presents an opportunity to work directly with the companys top wholesale brokers specializing in commercial residential insurance, helping you create impact and drive growth in the Florida market.


Qualifications and Experience



  • 10+ years of commercial residential property underwriting experience with a proven track record in property and limited GL coverage.

  • 7+ years of management experience with expertise in pricing, product strategy, financial analysis, and actuarial considerations.

  • Strong leadership and team-building skills with a history of effective relationship management.

  • In-depth knowledge and experience within the Florida insurance market, including regulatory and environmental nuances, are highly preferred.
