Salary Range: $58,000 - $78,000

Position Overview

The Communications Manager for the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department (AFRD) is responsible for managing the department's Public Affairs initiatives, ensuring clear, consistent, and impactful communication with both internal and external stakeholders. Reporting directly to the Communications Director, the Communications Manager will lead AFRD's internal and external communications efforts, oversee digital content, and support AFRD's strategic communication goals. This role involves creating compelling messaging, managing digital platforms, and coordinating public relations activities to enhance AFRD's brand and engagement with the community.

  • Public Relations Management: Lead the development and execution of AFRD's communication strategy, ensuring alignment with the department's mission and goals. This includes managing AFRD's public-facing communications and promoting its key initiatives.
  • Speeches and Presentations: Develop speeches, presentations, and talking points for the Fire Chief and senior leadership to effectively communicate with the public, stakeholders, and media outlets.
  • Internal Communications: Design and manage AFRD's internal communications strategy, including creating a monthly newsletter, managing intranet content, and ensuring timely updates on department priorities for employees.
  • Website and Digital Platforms: Oversee AFRD's website and digital content, including managing updates, producing content, and ensuring a consistent and accurate online presence.
  • Content Creation: Collaborate with AFRD divisions to develop content for brochures, campaigns, presentations, and other materials that support the department's outreach efforts. This includes working with external agencies or city departments on branding initiatives.
  • Social Media and Web Analytics: Assist in managing AFRD's social media presence and monitor engagement and performance metrics. Provide insights from web analytics to improve outreach and engagement strategies.
  • Editing and Proofreading: Oversee editing of internal and external communications produced by all AFRD units to ensure clarity, accuracy, and brand consistency.
  • Collaboration with Partners: Work closely with other city departments, partners, and vendors to develop cohesive communication strategies and materials that support citywide and departmental initiatives.
