General Description and Classification Standards

The City of Atlanta Department of Aviation (DOA) is seeking a highly skilled Sustainability Program Manager to join our dynamic Sustainability team. The Program Manager is responsible for organizing and coordinating critical sustainability programs including, and not limited to, carbon accreditation filings and audits, construction, recycling, and water conservation, energy efficiency, and overseeing the progress of these operations. This position provides strategic guidance to Department of Aviation leadership on Sustainability matters. The ideal candidate will be an excellent leader and will have experience in engaging stakeholders of different disciplines to produce results in a timely manner. The candidate will also be able to develop efficient strategies and tactics to ensure that all programs deliver the desirable outcome to our organization.

Supervision Received

Direction received is very general and focuses on end results and is typically collaborative in nature.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. May perform other duties as assigned. Performs administrative duties such as:

  • Leads the delivery of sustainability projects with airport internal and external stakeholder including airlines, policymakers, NGOs, academia, and other stakeholders across the aviation value chain
  • Establishes schedules, priorities, and standards for the organization, reviewing operations for efficiency and ability to achieve objectives, and preparing financial, budgetary, and operating reports.
  • Maintains program review and monitors trends. Assesses impact of sustainability programs established by the Department of Aviation.
  • Monitors work objectives and performance of contractors and staff in achieving goals. Coordinates various programs relating to sustainability efforts, including recycling programs, energy conservation, and other environmental issues.
  • Assists Director in the management of staff associated with Environmental construction projects.
  • Establishes work methods, timetables, performance standards, etc.
  • Coordinates application for federal, state and other grants to support sustainability efforts
  • Conducts strategic planning for sustainability programs, procurement, contract development and monitoring; develops annual plans and modifications for programs.
  • Maintains the efficiency of the project management process such as planning, scheduling, and budget and risk assessment. Identifies and mitigates potential risks.
  • Manages teams engaged in sustainability projects, including support staff as needed. Creates a structure/environment in which team members can work together as an efficient team.
  • Interfaces with and manages vendors and contractors for sustainability programs.
  • Identifies and operates critical software for the purpose of streamlining and coordinating activities for staff.
  • Monitors, measures, and reports on project status to Sustainability team and Department of Aviation leadership.
  • Accountable for strategic goals, including but not limited to, efficiency and functionality of all project completions, timeline adherence, budget, and resource management.
  • Assists in developing and implementing training sessions and awareness campaigns to educate employees and stakeholders about sustainability practices
  • Contributes to development of sustainability strategy
  • Manages development and implementation of sustainability strategy

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of Engineering or sustainability-related field
