Job description

The Business Manager I is responsible overseeing the operation of several areas of administrative services for the Public Security and Safety division for the Department of Aviation. Duties at this level include but are not limited to: assisting the department head by performing professional tasks in the areas of procurement, budgeting, planning, and training; representing the department by attending various meetings, training sessions and programs that require presentation for the department; tracking with implementation of Standard Operation Procedures and acting as liaison for various occasions. This is an experienced, professional level capable of carrying out most assignments typical of the profession with limited guidance or review. This level would be considered a promotional level and attainable by incumbents in a work group who demonstrate the necessary knowledge, ability, and skills.

Supervision Received

Works under very general supervision. Depending on organization structure, may work independently with responsibility for an assigned function or program.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. May perform other duties as assigned. Interprets, directs and implements goals and objectives. Develops, establishes and implements operational policies and procedures. Plans, prepares and manages budget activities for Public Safety and Security division. Authorizes and oversees purchasing requests. Oversees legislation and contracts with the assistance of the owners / directors and the Business Services unit. Directs and reviews the work of staff and provides support in overall functions. Participates and provides direction and supervision. Plans, assigns and coordinates staff work activities to include monthly meetings for front line staff and appreciation events. Identifies staff skill levels and encourages staff development through training. Interacts, mediates and responds to requests and complaints from vendors, contractors and other customers of the City to resolve problems and issues. Provides input and prepares the annual budget. Analyzes the department for future staffing needs and makes recommendations. Administers the department budget by monitoring and tracking expenditures for personnel, operations and equipment.

Provides exceptional customer service to our business customers by managing the department's email accounts, dashboards, updating the public and internal websites, developing the Monthly Security Awareness Memo for publication.

Works with directors to determine work schedule needs, appointment scheduling for the Credentialing Office, and provides administrative support to line management, check in processes, collection of payments, and provides to the budget team the security monthly billing for airport ID badges, vehicle permits, decals and background check submissions.

Assists with uniform allotment, ordering, tracking and distributions on a monthly / quarterly / yearly basis.

Supports the ATL-E training unit in tracking and assisting with training of new hires and program development.

Inventory tracking and ordering for the Public Safety and Security division by ensuring all key required items are in stock and available to meet the demand of the operation.

Leadership Provided

Typically has formal project management and/or skills development responsibilities. Routinely provides work group leadership, guidance, and/or training to less experienced staff.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
