Bachelors Degree in Political Science, Public Administration, Journalism, Writing Communications, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Three to five years experience developing communication material and strategies. Demonstrated basic understanding of the principles of communication practices and tactics; ability to develop written or graphic communication materials for print, electronic media, and or Web. Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities/Workload

We have an immediate need for a Communications Specialist, Sr. Specialist to develop DE&I Education communications for a large utility in the Los Angeles area. This person will play a critical role in shaping and driving the internal and external communications strategy to elevate the impact of DE&I initiatives across the organization. This role is responsible for creating and executing communication campaigns that are tightly aligned with the organization's strategic DE&I goals, enhancing engagement with key stakeholders, and amplifying the DE&I narrative. You will work closely with the DE&I team and other senior leaders to ensure that communications reflect the company's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, helping position DE&I as a strategic business driver.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the strategic lead for all DE&I-related communications, ensuring alignment with broader company goals and DE&I roadmap. Your work will directly influence the firm's DE&I impact, both internally and externally.

  • Design and implement innovative communication campaigns that articulate DE&I goals and progress. These campaigns will be pivotal in advancing the organization's DE&I strategy and fostering a culture of inclusivity.

  • Partner with the DE&I team to create impactful communications for both internal stakeholders and external audiences. Ensure that DE&I achievements and initiatives are highlighted through appropriate channels.

  • Assess and optimize existing communication channels to maximize the reach and resonance of DE&I messaging across the organization. Identify new opportunities to improve information flow and engagement with employees.

  • Develop high-level presentations, briefings, and summaries for senior leadership, including the executive team. These materials will clearly convey DE&I progress, goals, and strategic direction.

  • Project manage efforts for all DE&I communications, ensuring timelines, deliverables, and objectives are met efficiently.

    Required Skills/Attributes

  • 7+ years of experience in communications, with a significant portion dedicated to DE&I or related fields.

  • Proven ability to develop and implement communication strategies that align with organizational goals.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging to different audiences, including senior leadership and executives.

  • Strong project management skills, with experience managing multiple initiatives concurrently.

  • Adept at leveraging multiple communication platforms to amplify messages and increase engagement.
