Description:
Oversees and manages the daily and strategic operations of Data Integrity functions within hospital setting (inpatient and/or outpatient) Plans, directs, manages, coordinates and monitors the activities of Patient Identity processes.
The Director will ensure training, education, and ongoing support to new physicians, clinical staff and other users as appropriate.
Works across interdisciplinary workgroups to accomplish set goals as a team.
Is a representative of the Health Information Management team and is responsible for establishing, fostering and maintaining positive business relationships with Emory co-workers; interdisciplinary workgroups; clinical and financial department representatives; Epic partners; and all other staff who use or interact with Epic, Patient Identity application.
The person in this role will support Health Information Management, Making Data Healthy, Chart Corrections and Emory Digital.
This person will be accountable for the development and implementation of health information management procedures and solutions as it relates to Patient Identity.
Provide appropriate and timely problem escalation reporting as well as potential solutions to HIM and Patient Identity Teams.
Will have oversight of critical (admitted patient) and retrospective chart correction remediation.
Work closely with end-users within the organization to identify needs and assist with problem resolution as needed to meet enterprise objectives.
Partner with Emory Digital and Epic representatives on EMR applications affecting Patient Identity by performing system testing as appropriate.
Provide support to sections to include electronic health information management applications such as record integrity (document management), training, problem solving, template creation, reporting, system troubleshooting and assists with identifying system enhancements.
Ensures the integrity of Emory Healthcares Master Patient Index (MPI) by maintaining processes and procedures developed to promote patient safety through correct patient identification.
Overall responsible and primary contact for all identity issues, medical record number corrections, merges and Master Patient Index integrity across the entire health system.
Develops and implements strategic goals and objectives to maintain a high quality MPI.
Accountable for accurate and valid service outcomes.
Analyzes and synthesizes qualitative and quantitative health information for various needs.
Assures the validity and accuracy of Emorys MPI.
Manages and influences relationships with executives, physicians, unit/department directors, various leadership within the hospital/system, and staff to achieve best in practice performance and business results.
Works with various leaders and the senior management team to determine capital equipment, personnel and other fiscal requirements.
Prepares budget recommendations; monitors and verifies expenditures.
Ensures that the department is supported, operates within budget and in accordance with performance standards.
Manages staff and employee performance.
Resolves Human resource-related issues, determines staffing needs (clinical, clerical and administrative), interviews and hires staff.
Provides on-going performance feedback, addresses problems, orients and trains employees, verifies competency and identifies and suggests ways to develop skills.
Develops and implements department policies and procedures including, but not limited to The Joint Commission, OSHA, and other regulatory agencies.
In collaboration with clinical/non-clinical teams, physicians, other leaders and providers, uses reengineering, work flow analyses, etc. to develop techniques and practices to improve the provision of health care services.
Works with manager to formulate plan for professional development.
Attends educational in-services as appropriate.
Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments.
Remains current on new Epic versions, training and updates for applicable Patient Identity Modules.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Epic Patient Identity Certification required.
Registered Health Information Administrator credential preferred.
Bachelors degree required.
7 to 10 years HIM experience with 5 years in management capacity.
EHR/EMR experience required, Epic preferred.
