Description:
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to the Corporate Director for Planning, Design & Construction, the Director of Planning & Design provides collaboration, communication, innovation, and leadership in support of Emory Healthcare s construction planning function, including capital and non-capital construction planning, interior design and functionality, landscape architecture, and graphic design

The Director for Planning & Design leads project planning, programming, and design efforts for construction projects, as well as hardscapes/landscape studies and designs, working to maintain consistent architectural goals and promote EHCs mission and objectives

Effectively collaborates with the Director for Construction Management, establishing a high-performing team that is capable of cross utilizing skill sets in support of Emory Healthcares planning, design and construction initiatives and the Emory Healthcare mission

Balances project workloads and requirements for a team of planners/architects, design professionals and supporting administrative staff

Responsible for establishing goals to meet project budgets and scheduling, including milestone identifications and deadlines, as well as managing the logistics and the potential impact of projects on Emory Healthcare

Provides guidance to staff ensuring that projects are executed by focusing on the following principles: cost effectiveness, quality, safety, code compliance, schedule, and Emory Healthcares planning, design and construction procedures, while meeting program requirements

In support of the Corporate Director for Planning, Design & Construction, the Director provides project information and analysis to enable project prioritization for the Emory Healthcare capital planning process

Maintains focus on concurrent projects in various stages of construction. Develops Emory Healthcares planning, design and construction guidelines, policies, procedures, programs and services to consistently encourage and demonstrate action in fulfillment of Emory Healthcares planning, design and construction initiatives

Partners to develop, maintain, and update Emory s design and construction standards

Develops and implements contract strategies

Partners to develop, maintain, and update administrative procedures for construction, consultant, or service contracts

Guides the planning, design, construction, and renovation of healthcare facilities and physical environments consistent with related design guidelines, master plan(s), and design approval processes

Provides cost benefit analysis of physical investments related to compliance of design guidelines and master plan(s) and suggested value-added modifications related to availability

Maintains independent advisory voice related to major physical capital investments and maintenance of the Emory Healthcare physical plant related to supporting the Emory Healthcare mission

Stays abreast of industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in healthcare facility design and construction, and integrates innovative solutions into planning and design processes

Ensures compliance with all relevant codes, regulations, and standards governing healthcare facility design and construction, including ADA, NFPA, HIPAA, and Joint Commission requirements

Actively participates in selecting project architects, engineers, other professional consultants, and contractors and assumes a leading role in the negotiation of these contracts

Fosters collaborative relationships with cross-functional teams, including clinical staff, operations managers, architects, engineers, and contractors, to ensure the successful delivery of projects on time and within budget

Works closely with other Emory departments in stewardship of the physical plant, ensuring the effective use of resources in the maintenance, preservation, and creation of the physical environment

Provides leadership, mentorship, and guidance to a team of planners, designers, and project managers, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement

Identifies potential risks and obstacles to project success and develops proactive mitigation strategies to minimize disruptions, resolve issues, and achieve project objectives

Performs related responsibilities as required by the Corporate Director for Planning, Design and Construction

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelors degree in architecture, urban planning, engineering, space planning or related field required and seven (7) years of experience in related field, including five (5) years in healthcare OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and professional experience

Five (5) years of demonstrated coordination and leadership of teams preferred
