Salary Range: $43,491.74 - $54,418.23

General Description and Classification Standards

Employee performs highly skilled Commercial Electrical Maintenance, New Electrical System installations, bending pipe, tracing & testing circuits, wiring offices, mounting electrical panels / disconnects and mechanical equipment troubleshooting. Electrical work will be performed in Commercial Buildings including Secure Facilities that require recurring criminal background checks. Work involves utilizing knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70) as it applies to electrical systems. This position is for a skilled Journeyman Electrician capable of independently carrying out most assignments typical of this discipline. The candidate will be working on (sometimes live electrical) 120 / 208 / 240 Low Voltage & 277 / 480 High Voltage and 12 to 50 VDC Low Voltage in Commercial Buildings and must demonstrate & know the safety practices for those applications.

Supervision Received

Works under assigned Supervisor. May work independently or with other skilled or semi-skilled workers with responsibility for completion of assigned tasks.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive just to electrical work but to include performing general property maintenance and assignments not related to electrical as assigned by the supervisor. The candidate must be flexible and willing to learn other trade work that relates to facility maintenance when electrical work isn't needed. The applicant will install, repair and service specialized electrical equipment, trouble shoot & test system faults and machinery. Be familiar with using electrical circuit diagrams, electrical calculations and blueprints. Operate power & manual hand tools and other specialized equipment. Survey job assignments, assess best safe practice to complete tasks, compile material list & detailed information for the job and submit to the Electrical Supervisor. The applicant may supervise other employees during a minor portion of the work time. Those duties include assigning and reviewing work to other general maintenance staff. The candidate will also document, report & close out work orders on an iPad or desktop computer utilizing Maximo or other CMMS maintenance tracking systems.

Selects from the latest NFPA 70 procedures and safe methods to accomplish tasks.

Leadership Provided

Provides guidance as required to lower-level apprentices, temporary employees, vendors, etc.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities This is a partial listing of necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job successfully. Knowledge of electrical troubleshooting; electrical theory and methods, materials, hand tools, electrical meters, testing equipment and systems used in the electrical trade; knowledge of applicable National Electrical Codes and regulations pertaining to the electrical trade; knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management System use; knowledge of methods and practices followed in the maintenance of tools, machinery, and equipment; knowledge of OSHA safety precautions to be observed in the maintenance and installation of electrical and mechanical equipment; knowledge of operating basic hand, hydraulic, and pneumatic tools; skilled in communicating effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to operate and use required tools and equipment skillfully and safely; ability to assemble, install, maintain, and repair electrical apparatuses; ability to make rough sketches; ability to estimate cost, time and materials of electrical work; ability to analyze and respond safely and appropriately to emergency situations; knowledgeable of switchgears and transformers.

The ability to read and comprehend plans and blueprints as appropriate to trade; ability to perform heavy physical labor; ability to train and direct the work of other classified staff in the area; ability to follow and give oral and written instructions; ability to maintain cooperative working relationships.
