General Description and Classification Standards
Performs a variety of landscape architectural work in the study, conceptualization, design, preparation of projects. Duties may include, but are not limited to: preparing estimates, designing, reviewing, analyzing, understanding and interpreting plans and specifications, and drawings; coordinating, managing, directing assigned projects, landscape and watering design, lawn maintenance, planting, pruning, fertilizing, pruning of various plant materials and the maintenance of appropriate tools in equipment used for completion of work. Supervision Received Works under very general supervision. Depending on organization structure, may work independently with responsibility for an assigned function or program.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. May perform other duties as assigned. Prepares or supervises preparation of plans and specifications such as planting, grading, drainage, structural details and architectural features. Oversees landscape maintenance contracts; inspects and supervises construction; supervises lower level employees and contractors. Maintains plantings: plants, waters, prunes, trims, fertilizes, transplants, propagates, and cultivates perennials, annuals, trees and shrubs; mulches plant beds with gravel, chips, weed cloth, etc;. identifies hazardous trees and other plants and recommends or provides removal. Maintains lawn and turf areas: fertilizes, aerates, and mows lawns and turf areas; prepares and renovates lawns and turf areas with top dressing; screens soil, adds amendments, and adds soil to terrains, as necessary. Provides pest control: sprays chemicals for weeds, damaging insects and fungus; catches and transports or exterminates rodents, gophers, raccoons, rattlesnakes, and other pests; applies integrated pest management practices. Performs grounds maintenance: hauls debris, maintains rock walls, provides rough mowing, adds gravel to roads, pathways, and walkways; clears brush; picks up and removes litter. Confers with professional people, suppliers, salesmen, and others in the coordination of plans, acquisition or material and the estimation of costs. Reviews Tree Protection/Replacement plans for compliance with the Tree Protection Ordinance. Assists in public relations and publicity phases of the park program; fields phone calls from the general public about permitting tree removal, replies to property owners who are following up with previous requests for tree inspections, for FCO, Dead, Dying, Hazardous (DDH) requests, and sign postings; gives final approval for permits that were posted for tree removal. Routes and delivers drawings to permit issuance. Decision Making Selects from multiple procedures and methods to accomplish tasks.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
This is a partial listing of necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job successfully. It is not an exhaustive list.
