General Description and Classification Standards

The Public Safety Information Technology Manager (Senior Project Manager) holds a pivotal role in our organization, ensuring the technological advancement and efficiency of public safety operations. Your contribution to this role is paramount and will significantly impact our operations. As the Public Safety Information Technology Manager, you will have the opportunity to plan and coordinate all aspects of internal IT systems and specific projects for Public Safety within the Fire Department. This role is designed for a fully seasoned professional capable of independently carrying out most assignments, with the potential for significant growth and development.

Supervision Received:

This employee works under the guidance and supervision of the IT Director.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

As the Public Safety Information Technology Manager, you will be responsible for a range of duties. The position often requires a strong background in IT and management, along with budgeting, strategic planning, and team leadership skills. These include:

  • Coordinating work done in the Fire Department
  • Defining project requirements
  • Performing feasibility and needs/impact assessments
  • Developing detailed project plans
  • Managing all implementation processes
  • Ensuring on-time delivery within budget constraints.
  • Managing IT staff, ensuring system efficiency, developing and implementing IT policies, and maintaining security protocols.

Decision Making

Establishes work methods, timetables, performance standards, etc.

Leadership Provided

Typically has formal project management and skills development responsibilities.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Manage IT budgets and optimize spending while overseeing hardware, software, and network infrastructure.
  • Extensive knowledge of project management concepts, processes, and tools.
  • Ability to plan and carry out virtually all typical assignments within a professional area. Lead teams to ensure smooth operations.
  • Ability to build effective relationships within the City organization.
  • Ability to handle budgets and manage timelines when working with multiple groups of people inside and outside an organization.
  • Excellent client-facing and internal communication skills; Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Solid organizational skills, including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills.
