Based in Atlanta, EZA provides nuclear power, government, university and commercial laboratories with reference and calibration standards, sources, and proficiency testing samples to support quality measurements traceable to national standards.
The Job
Eckert & Ziegler Analytics seeks a Radiochemist II who will manufacture radioactive calibration standards, check sources and proficiency testing samples. This position plans and organizes quarterly production of Performance Testing Samples, evaluates data, performs some troubleshooting, and provides support to EZAs traceability program.
Duties:
- Manufactures calibration standards, check sources and PE samples.
- Manufactures sources to support Counting Laboratory and NIST MAP / traceability program.
- Produces mixed isotope batches e.g., MGS, TCC, GRS, A/F, and others.
- Performs gas and solution calibrations, reviews, and signs Certificates of Calibration.
- Maintains laboratory environment, equipment, radionuclide, and chemical inventories.
- Orders chemicals and laboratory supplies.
- Plans quarterly performance testing program.
- Evaluates data and performs some troubleshooting.
- Performs technical inspection of incoming radioactive material.
- Performs QC r elated measurements and maintains some nuclear counting instruments.
- Supports compliance to the Quality Management System in accordance with ISO 9001, ISO 17025, ISO 17043 and the EZA Quality Manual.
- Performs laboratory radioactive waste collection and consolidation & performs c l ean-up of minor spills.
- Reviews, revises, and writes procedures.
- Tr a i ns new employees.
Requirements:
- Minimum education (or substitute experience) required: 4-year degree in Chemistry or related discipline, or 5 years related experience in radiochemistry and standard preparation.
- Minimum experience required: 3 years combining wet radiochemistry (analytical balance operation, dilutions, pipetting), basics of nuclear counting methodology and nuclear physics experience a plus.
- Abilities and skills required:
- Ability to read and understand professional documents.
- B a sic laboratory skills and ability to work in compliance with Good Laboratory Practices.
- Must be detail oriented and possess ability to exercise caution when working with open radioactive materials.
- Knowledge of mathematical concepts such as algebra, geometry, probability, and statistical inference.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; Nuclear data software
- Ability to work with power tools and machinery a plus.
