Special Projects Coordinator - Office of Parks Quality Assurance Coordinator (Parks Inspector)

Posting Expires: October 27, 2024

Salary: $42,000/annually

General Description and Classification Standards

The Special Projects Coordinator is responsible for performing a variety of task in performing Quality Assurance for the Department of Parks and Recreation and specifically the Office of Parks. Duties include, but are not limited to: performing an audit of park properties maintained on the annual mowing schedule, providing audit results to pertinent divisions and management, scheduling and receiving monthly playground inspection reports, and conducting an annual inspection of playgrounds in the department inventory. This is an experienced, professional level capable of carrying out most assignments typical of the profession with limited guidance or review. This level would be considered a promotional level and attainable by any incumbents in a work group who demonstrate the necessary knowledge, ability, and performance. Could be the only professional in this specialty in a work group.

Supervision Received

Works under very general supervision. Depending on organization structure, may work independently with responsibility for an assigned function or program.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Creates an annual schedule to audit park properties currently scheduled to be mowed and maintained by the Office of Parks.

Compiles and distributes the results of the annual audit to pertinent divisions and management.

Schedules and compiles results of monthly playground inspections completed by maintenance divisions.

Reviews applicable service requests and work orders related to playgrounds.

Conducts an annual inspection of all playgrounds currently maintained by the Office of Parks

Performs, participates and/or conducts necessary meetings or training sessions, as applicable, regarding the park and playground inspections.

Reviews and makes recommendations regarding park and playground assessment tools.

Completes emergency inspections as may be necessary regarding playgrounds, parks, or park amenities.

Researches, interprets and advises regarding playground installations and park maintenance operations.

Decision Making

Applies organizational policies. Follows standardized procedures and written instructions to accomplish assigned tasks.

Routinely provides work group leadership, guidance, and/or training to less experienced staff.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities This is a partial listing of necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job successfully. It is not an exhaustive list.

Knowledge of: Best management practices in the maintenance and operations of parks and park facilities; knowledge of applicable playground standards including ASTM and CPSC standards; recordkeeping and reporting procedures; modern office equipment including personal computers, accessing email and internet.

Skill in: performing accurate and independent audits; listening and communicating to effectively convey information verbally and in writing; analytical thinking with demonstrated talent for identifying, scrutinizing; improving and streamlining inspection and work processes; networking with agencies and groups.

Ability to: understand and interpret local and federal regulations governing parks and playground installation and maintenance; coordinate, direct and implement departmental park and playground audit program, adhering to federal and City regulations; recommend and implement goals, objectives and practices for providing effective maintenance and repair programs; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with departmental operational divisions and the general public.
