East Central Regional Hospital is a state operated psychiatric facility with two campuses. The Augusta Campus is a psychiatric hospital that provides care to individuals with severe and persistent mental illness. The Gracewood Campus is an ICF/IID and Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) that provides care and services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The nurses will be part of an inter-professional, psychiatric/mental health team that includes staff and advanced practice nurses, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and direct care staff. Job Summary The Nurse Administrator is an RN responsible for making administrative decisions for the hospital in the absence of the campus leadership. Supervises nurses and staff and ensures adequate staffing for the oncoming shifts. Handles occurrences during the shift; ensures appropriate documentation and communication with staff. Determines in consultation with staff the issues to be referred to Executive leadership and Medical Officer of the Day (MOD)/Administrator on Duty (AOD). Collaborates with clients (patients), family members, and providers (MD/APRNs) to ensure needs are met and problems are resolved. Under the direction of their supervisor, will design staffing plans and manage the personnel resources for the department. Acts as the clinical nurse expert for the interdisciplinary treatment team and assures nursing contributions to all levels of treatment team activities. Responsible for interdepartmental communication and problem solving to assure smooth functioning of department. Responsible for compliance with Federal, State and Regulatory requirements. Communicating with both internal and external professionals regarding patient disposition. Takes leadership role in assuring supportive environment for student learning. Promotes professional development of self and staff. Is a member of the Hospital Leadership Team and is assigned responsibility for the provision of quality patient care for clients admitted to the nursing unit. Responsibilities The responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Clinical Management - Assumes overall responsibility for the hospital in the absence of the assigned campus leadership. Makes clinical rounds to each unit during each shift. Assures provision of quality patient care services. Assures compliance with all policies and procedures. Promotes interdisciplinary collaboration and communication in assuring client centered care. Articulates and supports nursing role as member of the interdisciplinary treatment team. Assures and maintains standards of care that are current and reflective of state and federal guidelines. Notifies the RHA/AOD, CNE/DON for certain issues per policy. Possess sound clinical knowledge, have strong interpersonal skills, and have excellent time management skills. Reviews observation flow sheets for all patients on special observation. Acts as a mentor and educator for fellow nurses and direct care personnel. Possess efficient problem-solving skills to manage and interact with physicians and other hospital staff and act as an advocate for the patients and their families. Human Resources Management - Designs staffing plans, schedules and assures provision of adequate levels of staff to meet identified needs. Recruits, interviews, and assists with selecting candidates for nursing service positions. Assures fair and reasonable enforcement of Human Resource policies and procedures. Attends Nursing leadership and hospital leadership team meetings or acknowledges reading and understanding of the meeting minutes. Collaborates with Nurse Manager/direct supervisor to address staff performance concerns. Staff Performance and Development - Utilizes systematic processes for monitoring, guiding and evaluating competencies and performance of staff. Promotes professional growth and development of all levels of staff supervised. Coaches staff for maximum efficiency and effectiveness. Supports career development for all levels of staff Safety and Continuous Quality Improvement - Ensures a culture of safety through interpretation implementation and monitoring of safe practices. Participates in hospital wide and departmental performance improvement initiatives. Assures staff awareness of safety issues to ensure a culture of safety. Encourages all staff to adhere to the highest standards in patient care and conducting regular campus rounds. Conducts fidelity checks and chart audits to ensure quality and safety across the campus. Conducts purposeful rounding and emergency drills to ensure continuous quality, safety and readiness. Material resource budget - Assures the selection provision and control of material resources. Establishing procedures to assure proper use and prevent misuse of equipment. Professional Development - Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field through membership in professional organizations, attending related seminars and conferences. Applies pertinent new knowledge to performance of all duties and responsibilities. Maintains compliance with mandatory training, new policies, and awareness of safety plans and implementation. Required Qualifications Educational Requirements Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university with a minimum of three years of related clinical and management/supervisory experience is required OR Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with four years' related clinical and/or management experience Other Required Qualifications Active Registered Nurse license in good standing to practice in the State of Georgia. Active American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification. Preferred Qualifications Preferred Educational Qualifications ECRH Augusta Campus Certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing and MSN from an accredited college or university is preferred.
