Job description

Duties Perform aseptic cleaning duties in critical areas. Uses wet vacuums, heavy vacuum cleaners, wet mops, hand sprayers, cleaning rags, sponge mops, etc. Measures and mixes germicidal cleaners and anti-bacterial solutions. Follows written procedures for specific cleaning of each distinct critical area using isolation techniques including cap, gown, mask, rubber gloves, and scrub procedures. Exercises extreme care in working around special machines, instrumentation and evidence samples, etc. Closely follows procedures to prevent cross-contamination in these critical labs. Collects, segregates, and disposes of contaminated wastes. Perform housekeeping duties within the facility to include HAZMAT chemical waste and/or contaminating substances and/or articles used during laboratory research are properly disposed. Collect, package, and transport waste generated in different laboratory areas using the appropriate personal protective equipment and boxes. Requirements Conditions of Employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Employee is required to participate in DNA profiling database within the USACIL. Employee is required to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance. Requires annual physical. Requires lifting and moving objects weighing over 40lbs and occasionally weighing over 80lbs. Requires wearing of protective equipment. Special safety requirements require wearing protected clothing to protect against irritant chemicals and blood-borne pathogens. Specialized experience is defined as: GS-0404-05: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing Janitorial duties within the facility to include the involvement of HAZMAT chemical waste and/or contaminating substances. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as those shown above for GS-4. At least 6 semester hours of courses must have been directly related to the position to be filled. The successful completion of a full course of study of at least 12 months in a school for clinical laboratory technicians may be substituted for the 1 year of specialized experience required at the GS-5 level for positions involving microbiology and biochemistry technician work. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. GS-0404-06: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing Janitorial duties within the facility to include the involvement of HAZMAT chemical waste and/or contaminating substances. Ensuring that the environment is maintained in clean, orderly, and sanitary condition. Performs cleaning and stocking of admin, restrooms, and common areas. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). OR Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages. GS-0404-07: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing Janitorial duties within the facility to include the involvement of HAZMAT chemical waste and/or contaminating substances; Ensuring that the environment is maintained in clean, orderly, and sanitary condition. Performs cleaning and stocking of admin, restrooms, and common areas; Managing hazardous waste according to current regulatory guidance; Experience in labeling, transporting, storing, tracking, and inspection of hazardous waste and temporary storage sites. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as scientific or technical courses such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18.
